Korean Grand Prix

Sebastian Vettel is into odds-on prices to win his third Formula One title in a row and he is a decent bet to take out the Korean Grand Prix for the second successive season and overtake Fernando Alonso in the championship race.

Victories in Singapore and Japan have thrust Vettel into second place on 190 points, just four adrift of Alonso in what looks like a two-man race with five rounds remaining. Kimi Raikkonen, who has not done anything spectacular this year, is another 33 points back in third position. Seven men have savoured grand prix glory in 2012 but the Finn is not one of them. Nor has Raikkonen qualified fastest, either.

The Korean Grand Prix is not one of the most exciting on the Formula One program but Vettel will not mind that one little bit. The German knows that the Yeongam track, 400 kilometres south of Seoul, is well suited to his Red Bull car, which it seems have taken a step forward over the past few weeks.

Vettel was dominant in the Japanese Grand Prix, qualifying fastest - he was the quickest man on the track in two of the three qualifying sessions - and winning the race by more than 20 seconds. And although his Red Bull teammate, Mark Webber, suffered yet more first-lap misfortune, that the Australian driver made the front row of the grid by two tenths of a second showed how well their cars worked.

Red Bull chief Christian Holder is attempting to play down the impact that the introduction of a double drag reduction system has had on his team`s competitiveness. That he has turned to the media speaks volumes. Most Formula One pundits are sure that Red Bull`s double DRS has improved its car considerably, particularly in all-important qualifying.

Unless McLaren has worked a miracle in the short space of time between the Japanese and Korean rounds of the Formula One championship, Vettel and Webber will have the fastest cars in the 16th round and the German, who was in a class of his own at Suzuka, is good enough to reap the dividends.

Vettel won last year`s Korean Grand Prix and he was on track to win the inaugural edition of the race in 2010 before his engine failed and forced him to retire on lap 46 of 55.

Back the German to win the Korean Grand Prix at odds of around 7-4. Also, think about supporting him in the pole position market at around 5-4 even though one mistake in just 95 seconds can be the difference between first and, well, not first. The 7-4 represents the better value.

There are sure to be some Korean Grand Prix exotic markets regarding the appearance of Gangnam Style star Psy, who will wave the chequered flag. Steer clear of betting on how the YouTube sensation will signal the end of the race. Simply bet on the identity of the driver who will see him first.
