After week one the bookmakers have Phil Taylor as the 2/1 (general) favourite to be Premier League Darts champion while Michael Van Gerwen is an 11/4 (general) chance. Raymond Van Barneveld is now into 8/1 (bet365/boylesports/Coral) while Simon Whitlock (our EW tip) has been cut to 10/1 (boylesports/betfred/Coral). Adrian Lewis is 12/1 (general), James Wade 14/1 (general) and Gary Anderson 16/1 (general). After a first week loss Wes Newton is the evens (Skybet/Blue Sq/888 Sport) favourite for the drop, while Robert Thornton is 11/8 (Skybet/Coral) and Andy Hamilton 6/4 (general).

The first game of the evening sees Raymond Van Barneveld taking on Wes Newton. The Dutchman will enter the game in confident mood as he holds the 5-2 lead in battles between the pair. In addition Barney averaged over a 100 in seeing off Gary Anderson last week. Newton played well in his loss to Wade though suffered from his inability to nail the doubles. Barney is 8/11 (boylesports/william hill) favourite while Newton is 3/1 (paddy Power/ladbrokes). Take Barney at 20/19 (BWin) in the most 180s market. Barney hit four of these in his game against Anderson and he is a much more prolific scorer than Newton.

The next game features James Wade against Andy Hamilton with Wade the 6/5 (ladbrokes) favourite after his victory over Newton. Hamilton though is unbeaten in the last five with Wade and could appeal at 15/8 (Blue Sq/888 Sport). I think the markets are about right and this could be a close one. The bet here may be take Hamilton to average over 95.5 which is evens with boylesports. The Hammer averaged 93.42 last week and this included some sloppy three dart sets. If he can cut out these basic mistakes the average should come right up.

The third of the five games Thursday evening is between Gary Anderson and Simon Whitlock. At first I thought the 5/4 (Skybet) on Whitlock looked a steal and then I noted the stat that Adrian Lewis had 17 attempts at doubles against the Wizard. Expect Anderson to not let those chances go especially in front of a Scottish crowd in Aberdeen. This game could go the distance then so take over 11.5 legs at 6/5 (Skybet/boylesports/Coral).

Adrian Lewis takes on Phil Taylor in what is the game of the night. These two teamed up to lead England to World Cup glory though it was largely the Power who carried the pair to success. That being said over 12 legs Adrian Lewis can be anything especially when it comes to games against his former mentor. While most collapse against him Jackpot seems to relish these games with Taylor. Lewis has lost just one of his last five Premier League meetings with him and looks worth an interest at 6/4 (Skybet/BetVictor) in the double chance market which would also pay out on this game ending a draw. As Taylor showed against Van Gerwen he is an expert at scrambling for a point so it may pay to have this on side.

The fifth and final game of the evening has Michael Van Gerwen taking on Robert Thornton. The Dutchman should win but odds of 11/20 (betway) are not convincing while I can not be siding with Thornton even at 4/1 (Boylesports). The best bet then might be in the total 180s market as Van Gerwen got seven in his first week while Thornton got five. Bookmakers have the total 180s market set at 6.5 so take the overs at 5/4 (Blue Sq/888 Sport).

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Lewis and draw in double chance market v Taylor, 6/4 (Skybet/BetVictor)
SILVER: Barney to hit most 180s in game with Newton, 20/19 (BWin)
BRONZE: Over 6.5 180s in Van Gerwen v Thornton, 5/4 (Blue Sq/888 Sport)
