Two weeks into the Premier League Darts season and just one player has a 100% record such is the competitive nature of the tournament. Raymond Van Barneveld sits top of the table with two wins from two games and is 4/1 (BetVictor/william hill) to finish top of the league come the season end. It is Phil Taylor who still is the favourite though he is out to evens (general) while Michael Van Gerwen is a 7/2 (Skybet/Coral) hope. It is then a big gap in the market until Gary Anderson who is 20/1 (paddy Power).

At the other end of the table Wes Newton and Adrian Lewis have both made slow starts to the season and have yet to pick up a point. Newton is 8/13 (Skybet) for relegation while Hamilton is 7/4 (paddy Power), Thornton is 5/2 (general) and Lewis is 11/4 (general),

The action comes from Bournemouth Thursday night with the opening game being a battle between James Wade and Adrian Lewis. Wade has won one and lost one so far (beating Newton but losing to Hamilton) while Lewis has lost his first two games (to Whitlock and Taylor). Only Simon Whitlock produced a lower three dart average than these two last week. This might then be a scrappy affair in fact it could also end in a scrap such is the lack of respect that these two have for each other. These two have history in the past most notably bouncegate (a bouncy floor) and breezegate (game delayed for a draft). The bookmakers say there is little to choose between the pair with Lewis the 6/5 (general) favourite and Wade 7/4 (Skybet/sportingbet/BetVictor). A fun game beckons but not one to bet on.

Next up is Robert Thornton taking on Wes Newton in a battle of the newcomers. It is Thornton who has adjusted well to the league beating Hamilton in week one before drawing with Van Gerwen last week. Newton has looked lifeless in defeats to Wade and Van Barneveld. Some might think that the 23/20 (Blue Sq/888 Sport) on the Scot is worth siding with. I have to think Newton must get his act together at some point and at 13/10 (boylesports) in the draw no bet market I am going to go out on a limb and predict a Newton victory.

I can’t be having any of the 2/7 (BetVictor) are offering on Phil Taylor to beat Simon Whitlock as this is much to short. The Australian is 7/2 (general) though he does not have the best record against Taylor and looked a little off his darts when losing to Gary Anderson last week. This looks another game that should be an enjoyable watch though is not one to get involved with from a betting point of view.

The battle of the Dutchmen is next as Raymond Van Barneveld takes on Michael Van Gerwen. Van Gerwen is 13/10 (general) victory while Van Barneveld is 6/4 (general). Bearing in mind that Van Gerwen has drawn both games so far and that the last two meetings have ended 10-9 and 16-14 this looks like being another close one. Take the game to go over 11.5 legs at 6/5 (Skybet/Coral).

The final game of the evening sees Andy Hamilton take on Gary Anderson with the Englishman a remarkable 6/5 (bet365/boylesports/william hill) in the draw no bet market. I do not understand this price. Both players have near identical three dart records, both have five maximums and Hamilton has only lost one of the last five meetings between the pair. This all being said then to me this looks the best of the bets in week three.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Hamilton to beat Anderson, draw no bet, 6/5 (bet365/boylesports/William Hill)
SILVER: Newton to beat Thornton, draw no bet, 13/10 (boylesports)
BRONZE: Van Barneveld and Van Gerwen, over 11.5 legs, 6/5 (Skybet/Coral)
