Fa Cup

With four teams battling for the two remaining slots in the FA Cup last eight here is a look at the action this week and a look at how the outright markets are shaping up.

Bookmakers make Man City the 15/8 (Coral) favourites for the FA Cup. City were my outright tip for the trophy at the start and with no other major trophies on the horizon it is clear that Roberto Mancini will make winning this a priority. The quarter-final draw has been kind and despite the improved form of Barnsley it would be a major shock if City were not one of the four semi-finalists.

Man United are 9/4 (bet365/You Win/betway) to lift the trophy and they face the winners of the fifth round clash between Middlesbrough and Chelsea this Wednesday. The London side are the 4/9 (bet365/Stan James) favourites for the game. Boro are on a poor run of form winning just two of their last nine games. I can not see the North Eastern side springing a shock at 7/1 (general) or the draw at 7/2 (general). I think Chelsea will come through though I would be looking at other markets as 4/9 is too short. The recommended bet in this game could be in Victor Moses to net a goal and he is 11/4 (Coral) to score anytime or 8/1 (ladbrokes) to score the opener. The Nigerian winger has tended to feature in the FA Cup when available for selection and he could use his pace to exploit a Middlesbrough backline that has looked vulnerable in recent weeks. If you think Chelsea can win the FA Cup you can back them at 6/1 (general) while Middlesbrough are available at 400/1 (You Win).

The Tuesday night game sees Everton take on Oldham with the winners given a home tie with Wigan in the last eight. Everton are 5/1 (Coral) to lift the trophy while Oldham are 500/1 (general). These two teams battled out a 2-2 draw in the last game though bookmakers think Oldham have had their chance as the Toffees are the 1/6 (general) favourite while the draw is 7/1 (william hill/BetVictor) and an Oldham victory is as big as 20/1 (Stan James). I can not see past the home side though these odds offer no appeal. The bet here could be in the 5/4 (BWin) that both teams score. This has been the case in 23 of the last 26 games in all competitions for Everton and has also been so in 11 of the last 14 Oldham games. Both sides found the net in the opening game in a high scoring draw and another high scorer could be the order of the day here. Take BWin up on that price.

One last bet I want to recommend is in the outright markets. It has to be worth a little interest in Blackburn at 50/1 (bet365) each-way to make the final. Rovers face an all Championship clash with Millwall in the last eight and if they can win that the price will come down. The price will come down further still if they avoid either of the Manchester sides or Chelsea. In a season of cup shocks it has to be worth a little interest that an unsual name could be running out on final day.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Both teams to score Everton v Oldham, 5/4 (BWin)
SILVER: Victor Moses to score v Boro, first 8/1 (ladbrokes), anytime 11/4 (Coral)
BRONZE: Blackburn EW to win FA Cup, 50/1 (bet365)
