Despite the FA Cup there are a number of games in the Football League this weekend . Here is our guide to the best of the bets from these divisions.

The first game of Saturday afternoon is the 1.00pm kick-off that sees league leaders Cardiff up against Bristol City. It seems a likely home win but be careful at 4/7 (Coral) as the Bluebirds did lose at home to Peterborough and Bristol City are side on the up under new boss Sean O’Driscoll. This is one I would advise that you do not stick in your accumulators.

All in all I find betting in the Championship a little difficult this weekend and not one team in the outright match markets really screams out value bet to me. The best bet maybe in the game between Crystal Palace and Middlesbrough. I like the look of the 21/20 (Coral) are offering on the London side to score more than 1.5 goals. Palace have scored more than one home goal in ten of their last 12 league games at Selhurst Park while Boro have conceded more than one goal in five of their last 7 away games in the Championship.

Going into the weekend it was Bournemouth who were top of the table in League One and at 23/20 (ladbrokes/Coral) the Cherries might appeal to some. I would be a little wary as Preston have just sacked manager Graham Westley after 13 months in charge. The disciplinarian is the latest to fail as boss of Preston and despite being backed with an overhaul of the squad has not been able to turn around the fortunes of the Lancashire side. It could be that the removal of the manager in charge could bring around a short-term change of fortune for North End and as such this might be a game to avoid.

The best bet in this division is in siding with Carlisle at 6/5 (general) to get something from the game with Portsmouth. Pompey are now without a win in 19 games and despite a point at Hartlepool last time out and a defeat for Carlisle at Scunthorpe the Cumbrians look a must back at this price. This after all is the same side that won at high-flying Tranmere on their travels last time out. Expect the Portsmouth misery to continue this Saturday.

Yeovil at 7/6 (188 Bet) at first caught my eye however I am not sure the run can continue on forever and they did have to come from behind against Preston in midweek. I think this time around I will give them a miss especially when they take on a Scunthorpe side in good form of their own winning each of their last three.

Into League Two and leaders Port Vale are 7/10 (BetVictor/william hill) to see off Morecambe. Vale are in great form picking up 21 points (six wins, three draws, one loss) from their last ten games, the best form in the division. A word of caution though visitors Morecambe are on a decent run of form themselves winning three of their last four including their last two away games. I am not sure they will win this but Vale do not appeal at these prices.

The bet that stands out to me in this division is in siding with Barnet to get something out of their game with York. The Bees are 9/5 (ladbrokes) in the draw no bet market and although they have the worst away record in the division hosts York are a side who look a mess at the moment. The Minstermen are without a win in their last seven games and although they got a point against Gillingham last time they could have taken their eye off this game for the glamour tie of the high-flying Gills. Barnet have shown signs of life in recent weeks and they might spring the shock here.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Carlisle to beat Portsmouth, 6/5 (general)
SILVER: Barnet draw no bet market v York, 9/5 (ladbrokes)
BRONZE: Palace to score over 1.5 goals v Middlesbrough, 21/20 (Coral)
