Liverpool take on West Brom Monday night in a game that pitches the side that began the weekend in seventh against the side who began it in ninth. Bookmakers make Liverpool the 2/5 (general) favourites against a West Brom side that have not won any of their last eight in all competitions. The Baggies have also taken just one point from their last six games in the league and lost five of their last six away from home. Liverpool have won six of their last eight at home (including each of their last three).

West Brom fans looking for some hope can point to the recent record in meetings between these sides where the Baggies have won three of their last four including victory at Anfield last season. In addition Liverpool have not beaten any of the other teams in the top half of the Premier League this season. A West Brom victory is 119/13 (pinnacle) while the draw is a best priced 79/18 (pinnacle).

Luis Suarez has averaged a shot every 21 minutes, which is the most prolific rate of any other player in the top flight. Suarez is the 10/3 (general) favourite to grab the opening goal in the game while Daniel Sturridge is 4/1 (BWin). The former Chelsea man has netted in three of his last four Premier League appearances for Liverpool. Those looking for a West Brom player to net the first goal can get Romelu Lukaku at 11/1 (BWin) or Shane Long 14/1 (BWin).

An interesting stat to note is that Liverpool have scored the joint most goals from outside the penalty area of any team in the top flight (going into the weekend) while West Brom had conceded the most goals from outside the penalty area. This leads me to recommend a couple of speculative bets on the goalscorer markets. Jordan Henderson is 14/1 (BWin/ladbrokes) to grab the opening goal or is 5/1 (Coral) in the anytime scorer market. Stewart Downing is also 5/1 (Coral) in the anytime scorer market or 14/1 (ladbrokes) to score first. Both players have been occupying the wide positions in a 4-2-3-1 formation and with Sturridge and Suarez up top they should have the chances to get on the scoresheet.

The Reds have kept five clean sheets in their last six Premier League matches at Anfield and you can get evens (bet365) that they keep a clean sheet against West Brom here. If you want to go a step further then you can Liverpool to win to nil at 7/5 (betway).

If you think Liverpool will keep a clean sheet then you can get them to win 2-0 (13/2 BetVictor/188 Bet), 1-0 is (15/2-BetVictor) while 3-0 is (9/1 general). Those who think the game will end the draw can get 0-0 at 16/1 (general), 1-1 is available at 11/1 (BetVictor) and the 2-2 draw is 25/1 (BetVictor). A West Brom 1-0 victory is 30/1 (BetVictor) while a 2-1 victory is 33/1 (BetVictor).

Also on Monday night one game takes place in the SPL as Hibernian take on St Johnstone. Going into the weekend these sides sat fourth and fifth with just one point seperating them. Bookmakers are having trouble splitting the pair with Hibs the 13/8 (Pinnacle) favourites while St Johnstone are 2/1 (Totesport/betfred) and the draw is 44/19 (Pinnacle).

The bet in this game is to say no in the both teams to score markets as this bet would have paid in five of the last eight St Johnstone games and six of the last seven Hibernian games. Despite this paddy Power are offering 11/10 so take them up on their generous offer.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: NO in the both teams to score in Hibernian v St Johnstone, 11/10 (paddy Power)
SILVER: Jordan Henderson to score v West Brom, first 14/1 (BWin/ladbrokes), Anytime 5/1 (Coral)
BRONZE: Stewart Downing to score v West Brom, first 14/1 (ladbrokes), Anytime 5/1 (Coral).
