As the NBA reaches the All Star Weekend it gives us a perfect chance to pause and reflect on the first half of the season and look around for some value bets for the Second Half.

If you are just approaching this market for the first time then Miami Heat at 7/4 (general) still look outstanding value for the title. This Heat team should win the Eastern Conference with few problems as the only side who could really beat them are Chicago and that is only if Derrick Rose returns fit and to his best. Brooklyn could be dangerous if they get Dwight Howard. Ditto the Hawks and the Celtics. New York if they get Amare, Melo and Chandler going at the same time could win a few games. Indiana if the young players can come through could take a few games . Truth be known these moves might make teams go longer against the Heat but nobody out East has the tools to stop Miami. LeBron James is the best player in the NBA, he is to me the best player since Michael Jordan. I spoke at the start of the season of how now he has won a title the pressure will be of James and it has shown to be the case, he has been incredible this season. His supporting cast are excellent, Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, Ray Allen, this Heat team has assets all over and the only way to beat them is with height

If you wanted to be conservative in the bet then a great way to cover it is in taking the Western Conference to be the winning conference at evens (Blue Sq/888 Sport) as this means you get your money back if the Heat lose to anyone in the final and if they win they you get paid out at 7/4.

The Western Conference is known to the media and fans as ’the wild west’ and with good reason. It looks impossible to predict just who will progress with little to choose between Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs and the LA Clippers. All these sides mind might be vulnerable to shocks from lower seeds such as Memphis, Denver, Utah, Houston and the Golden State Warriors. This is before we even get to teams under the play-off radar such as Portland, La Lakers and Dallas who could make a late push to get in the eight play-off teams. This looks a fascianting battle to unfold though not one to get involved with from a betting point of view.

These are not the only markets available to bet on as you can bet on who will win the MVP award and who will be crowned Rookie of the Year. At the start of the season I recommended a bet on Portland rookie Damian Lillard to be win the Rookie of the Year award and he is now as short as 1/14 (Blue Sq/888 Sport). Unless he has a season ending injury I can not see how he does not win the award.

In terms of MVP while others might have a case made for them it is likely to come down to a battle between the two finest players in the modern game, LeBron James and Kevin Durant. James is 4/7 (BWin) to win the title while Durant is 5/2 (Blue Sq/888 Sport). At the start of the season I suggested it would be the turn of Durant to win the title. I have changed my mind as James has been so impressive this season I can not look past him.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Lebron James to be named MVP, 4/7 (BWin)
SILVER: Miami Heat to win the NBA Title, 7/4 (general)
BRONZE: A cover bet on a Western Conference side to win NBA title, Evens (Blue Sq/888 Sport).
