We have a double-header of live Premier League action on Saturday that features two of the top four in the division and two teams battling against relegation. Here is our guide to the best of the bets from these games.

Bookmakers have Tottenham the 4/6 (general) favourites to see off Newcastle as they enter the game on the back of a run of form that has seen them win eight and lose just one of their last 13 Premier League games. Newcastle have also lost on each of their last three visits to White Hart Lane and have not registered a goal in these games. In fact they have won on just one of their last 11 trips to the capital. The Magpies though will be in good heart after winning their last two games and they are 24/5 (pinnacle) for victory while the draw is a best priced 41/13 (pinnacle).

It is unclear who will lead the line for Tottenham in this game with Jermain Defoe an injury doubt and Emmanuel Adebayor not long returned from the African Cup of Nations. It was Lewis Holtby who came on for Defoe at the Hawthorns and at 11/1 (Coral) he looks worth playing in the first goalscorer market while he can backed in the anytime scorer market at 4/1 (Coral). Gareth Bale meanwhile has been in great scoring form netting in each of his last three in all competitions and he is 7/4 (ladbrokes/Coral) to score anytime. Moussa Sissoko became an instant hero with the Newcastle fans after grabbing two in the last game and is available at 6/1 (Blue Sq/paddy Power/888 Sport) in the anytime scorer market. One stat of note is that Tottenham have scored the highest proportion of goals in the second half this season (74%) so it might be worth looking at a bet on the second half to be the highest scoring which can be backed at 6/5 (BWin). This bet would have paid in 11 of the league games at White Hart Lane this season and in seven of Newcastle’s away encounters.

The evening game is a game between Southampton and Man City with both sides keen on the points for different reasons. The Saints are still involved in the relegation battle while City need a win to keep the pressure on United. Bookmakers have City as the 19/29 (Pinnacle) favourites as they look to make it ten wins from eleven games from sides in the bottom eight of the table (the other game ended drawn). City could appeal to some though it is not for me as the Saints at their own ground are difficult opponents. It is 5/1 (Blue Sq/888 Sport) a Saints victory which would put the final nail in the coffin of the City title race. The draw is available at 16/5 (Totesport/betfred) which has been the result in six of the last eight Southampton league games and in the last two Man City games.

The First goalscorer market is headed by Sergio Aguero at 4/1 (general) while Carlos Tevez is 9/2 (ladbrokes). Edin Dzeko has scored five goals in his last six appearances and is 5/1 (bet365) while Rickie Lambert has scored five in his last eight and is 8/1 (bet365/BWin) to open the scoring here.

One bet I like the look of in this game is in the assist market where Jay Rodriguez of Southampton can be backed at 14/1 (boylesports) to grab the first or 9/2 (boylesports) to do so at anytime. The forward played in a wide role against Wigan and created both goals. It is worth chancing for small stakes that he can do the same again here.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Second half to be highest scoring in Tottenham v Newcastle, 6/5 (BWin)
SILVER: Lewis Holtby to score v Newcastle, first 11/1, anytime 4/1 (Coral)
BRONZE: Jay Rodriguez to assist v Man City, first 14/1, anytime 9/2 (Boylesports)
