Robin Van Persie Next Club

After the announcement from Robin Van Persie that he does not intend to sign a new deal at Arsenal, we look at where the Dutchman could be playing next season.

To know where Robin Van Persie will end up then we must ask ourselves why would Robin Van Perise leave Arsenal in the first place? Reports from those close to the player suggest he is tired of not winning silverware (Arsenal last won a trophy in 2005 and the Premier League in 2004). It is not about Van Persie being the man, he is club captain and a legend at Arsenal, but that it is not enough. So we need a club who can win things and who can pay the Dutchman well (we must always consider money, he is after all human). The third thing to note is that Van Persie must think he can fit his way into the team, it is no use the Dutchman moving to a club that he will not play at.

So let us whittle down some of the options. Second favourites Juventus have been heavily linked with the Dutchman. No doubt they would love the player to play up front in what is probably their weakest position. I would love to date Megan Fox, these things are unlikely though. A few Serie A titles is probably not what Van Persie wants from his career, Juventus are not frontrunners in the Champions League stakes and will the Old Lady really have the finances to pull off such a move, it has been a while since they were heavy hitters in the transfer market. As for Megan Fox, call me.

Next in the market is Man Utd at 5/1 (Bodog) but it appears that Fergie is more interested in adding players in other positions, notably midfield. Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck give Utd enough options up front and they do not have the budget of City or the two Spanish giants. Barcelona at 14/1 (paddy Power) are likely non-runners as Van Persie must worry about playing time with Lionel Messi and David Villa leading the line.

PSG (33/1-paddy Power) and AC Milan (25/1-Bodog) seem to have set their targets elsewhere with PSG set to sign Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Milan looking to replace him with either of the Man City duo Carlos Tevez and Edin Dzeko. Other sides like Chelsea, Bayern, Inter and Ajax seem like no goes.

This leaves two real options. Man City at evens (paddy Power) and Real Madrid at 10/1 (Bodog). The route from the Emirates to the Etihad is a well travelled one with Emmanuel Adebayor, Gael Clichy, Samir Nasri and Kolo Toure having made the journey. It is no surprise then to find the Dutchman linked, this is a club where he is much more likely to challenge for trophies. He can fit in up front alongside Aguero in a side that is challenging for the Premier League and Champions League and not even have to leave the country.

Real Madrid 10/1 (Bodog) must also appeal. Van Persie will play alongside some world class players and be challenging for trophies every season. True he would be another fish in the pond, but if he really is true to his father’s word about not wanting to play for another club in England then this is his best option. If Madrid can sell Higuain, Van Perise would only have Benzema ahead of him and with the Frenchman showing he can play deep in the Euros then it might be possible for these two to play together at times.

It seems certain to be one of the big transfer sagas of the summer which could run and run.
