Football Premier League and Championship Preview

With the Premier League and Championship taking a rest for the international break it is League One and League Two that take centre stage in England this weekend, here is a look at the games.

A TV double header takes place in League One on Sunday as Coventry play host to Stevenage while later Crawley host Portsmouth. The away side look good in the opener as hosts Coventry are having a terrible time of things failing to win any of their four league games this season following their relegation from the Championship. Manager Andy Thorn has already been replaced with Richard Shaw currently in charge on a caretaker basis. Stevenage meanwhile have had a great start to the season going unbeaten in their four games and look great value at 53/21 (pinnacle) or 13/8 (ladbrokes) in the draw no bet market.

The other live game in the division this weekend sees Crawley take on Portsmouth and it is hard to see past the home side at 17/20 (sportingbet/william hill). Richie Barker has done a good job since taking over and has installed a confidence in his new team. Three wins from four games sees them sit in fourth. Portsmouth meanwhile go from one crisis to another and have just picked up two points from the season so far.

The best bet in League One this weekend is the 15/14 (pinnacle) on Sheff Utd to win away at Scunthorpe. It has not been the best of times for Alan Knill recently. The Scunthorpe manager hit the headlines for his story recently of when out riding a bike and trying to avoid a squirrel he almost had a terrible crash. I think the aim was to tell people not to panic and that there is more serious things in life than Football, which is good advice and something he might need to console him with Saturday night when his side fail (again) to register a point. Visitors Sheff Utd are the class act in that division and are unbeaten this season, they have drawn both their away games though I expect three points to be the order of the day here.

In League Two it is Gillingham who are the early pace-setters with three wins and one draw from their opening four games. They face a visit to Barnet this weekend who are bottom of the table. At 23/25 (Pinnacle) the away win will undoubtedly have many supporters. My preference for a bet in this division is with York at 7/5 (general). The Minstermen became the first side to beat Oxford in this division last weekend as well as winning at Rotherham in the JP Trophy. Since an opening day defeat York have bounced right back and taken seven points from their last three games. Their opponents Chesterfield have not picked up a victory since their relegation from League 1 last season. Manager John Sheridan has been sacked while striker Jordan Bowery left the side at the deadline as he completed a move to Aston Villa. The home side look great value at the price.

Speaking of Oxford, which we did in our York preview, they are our second recommendation. The 21/20 (BetVictor/Blue Sq/888 Sport) on them to beat Exeter is a great price. Although these sides are second and third in the division it is Oxford who I think are the better side and if they can keep ahold of manager Chris Wilder then they should be right in the promotion mix this season. I fully expect them to bounce back from their defeat to York here.
