Champions League Preview and Odds - Tottenham Hotspur vs Monaco

September 14, 2016 20:45pm - White Hart Lane

Champions League - Group Stage

Tottenham Hotspur will play their first Champions League match in five years when they welcome Group E rivals Monaco to Wembley on Wednesday night.

Goals expected as Spur return to Euro stage

Spurs will make their Champions League return in front of 80,000 spectators on Wednesday night after they agreed a deal with Wembley National Stadium Limited to play their 2016/17 Champions League fixtures at the national stadium.

The first game of Group E will see Mauricio Pochettino`s men take on the French league leaders Monaco. When the teams met in the group stage of Europe`s second tier competition last season, the English side triumphed 4-1 on home soil and drew 1-1 in France. A similar set of results would suit the North Londoners this time round.

Tottenham will come into this game in buoyant mood after thumping Stoke City 4-0 away from home last weekend. That result, extended their unbeaten run at the start of the season to four games and lifted them to fifth in the Premier League table.

The visitors have also had a positive start to their current league campaign, having won three and drawn one of their opening four fixtures to leave them top of the Ligue 1 table. In addition, they beat last season`s Europa League semi-finalists Villarreal over two legs to book their place in the group stages of this season`s Champions League.

Their current run of five straight wins in all competitions included a 3-1 win over reigning French league champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Team news

Danny Rose is the only confirmed absentee for the home side.

Meanwhile, the visitors will be without Danijel Subašić, Benjamin Mendy, Thomas Lemar, Guido Carrillo and Kylian Mbappé.
