Premier League preview and odds: Stoke City vs Sunderland

October 15 , 2016 15:00pm - Bet365 Stadium

Premier League

Winless Stoke City will look to give their season a much-needed boost when they welcome a Sunderland side also looking for their first win to the Bet365 Stadium on Saturday.

Bottom two go head-to-head

Stoke City managed to haul themselves off the bottom of the Premier League table by drawing their last two matches and will look to extend their run beaten run to three games this weekend. In their last game, they held Manchester United 1-1 at Old Trafford, a result that lifted some of the pressure off the shoulders of under-fire boss Mark Hughes.

The Potters have failed to win a single game in the league this season and have conceded at least one goal in every match. They have only scored first in one game and have yet to score a goal in the first half of a game. A win on Saturday could lift them out of the bottom three if other results go their way.

Meanwhile, Sunderland have taken Stoke`s place at the bottom of the table thanks to a pitiful haul of just two points from seven games. If they continue picking up points at their current rate, they would finish the season on 11 points.

The Black Cats come into this game on the back of a 1-1 draw at home to West Bromwich Albion, a result that was hailed as positive in the context of their season so far.

Like their opponents, Sunderland have failed to win any of the seven matches they have played so far, and have conceded at least one goal in all of them. All but one of their goals has been scored in the second half.

Team news

Stoke City will continue without the services of Haugaard, Butland, Ireland and Afellay.

Meanwhile, the visitors will have to make do without the injured group of Pienaar, Anichebe, Cattermole, Januzaj, Kirchhoff, Mannone, Borini and Larsson.
