Football International Friendlies

It is a busy night of International friendlies on Wednesday (August 15th) and here we preview some of the more intriguing looking games that are taking place.

England v Italy: (20:00): England’s Roy Hodgson are experimental in a kind of way your Science teacher at school used to tell you that these experiments would be fun, i.e not very much. A few new players might be in the mix, but many of the old guard are still around. Some newspapers might hype this as England looking for revenge, but really it is hard to get excited about these games that come at completely the wrong time in the season. Bookmakers make England the 6/4 (general) favourites to win the game, while Italy are 85/40 (BetVictor). The draw is probably the way to play this market and that is available at 23/10 (Skybet). Both sides will be unwilling to risk too much with the start of the league season just around the corner and Italy might (again) find an organised England side a little tricky too break down. The 0-0 draw is priced at 13/2.

Germany v Argentina (19:45): Germany are 13/10 (general) to beat Argentina who are 12/5 (pinnacle) while the draw is priced at 13/5 (pinnacle). This promises to be an exciting match between two attacking side and backing over 2.5 goals looks the way to go. This would have paid on each of the last four games both sides have played. The 5/6 on offer with boylesports looks good value.

Scotland v Australia (20:00): Australia look the value to see off Scotland in the draw no bet market at 6/5 (ladbrokes). Though the FIFA rankings are not always the best guide (they do after all have England ranked third in the world) some 22 places exist between Australia in 24th and Scotland down in 46th. Last time we saw the Scots was in a dire 5-1 loss to the USA and they look worth opposing once more here.

Wales v Bosnia-Herzegovina (19:45): This looks like being an open game between two sides who might shock a few teams in qualifying for the 2014 World Cup. Bosnia-Herzegovina are a best priced 7/4 (Pinnacle) while Wales are a best priced 15/8 (BetVictor). Edin Dzeko at 6/1 (boylesports/Stan James/william hill) in the first scorer market might be the way to play as the player has looked sharp in pre-season.

Northern Ireland v Finland (19:45): Northern Ireland are on a dreadful run of international form and look a terrible bet at 19/10 (Pinnacle). Finland are no world beaters either and do not inspire confidence at 17/10 (general). Both these teams have questionable defences and the evens (boylesports/Stan James/Coral) on both teams to score looks the way to play this.

Serbia v Rep of Ireland (19:45): After a terrible Euros the Republic of Ireland will look to bounce back in this friendly against Serbia. The bookmakers make Serbia 5/6 (general) to win the match while Ireland are 19/4 (Stan James). Trapattoni is a master of stealing the away point and although no actual points are available here the draw still looks the bet at 18/7 (Pinnacle).

France v Uruguay (19:45): Didider Deschamps takes charge of France for the first time and a Uruguay side without Suarez and Cavani look beatable, take the 11/10 (general) on offer for a French victory.

Sweden v Brazil: (19:00): Brazil look great value here at 11/10 (general) to see off Sweden.
