Premier League preview and odds: Leicester City vs Burnley

September 17 , 2016 15:00pm - King Power Stadium

Premier League

After cruising to victory in their first Champions League encounter, Leicester City will look to carry that momentum into this weekend`s Premier League clash against new boys Burnley.

Foxes on Euro high

Before they had even kicked a ball at elite European level, there were many voices questioning Leicester City`s credentials as a Champions League side. The Foxes proved their doubters wrong in the perfect way, cruising to a 3-0 win away from home against Club Brugge.

While they may not progress to the latter stages of the competition, the East Midlands club have at least proved that they merit their place in the group stage line-up.

Claudio Ranieri`s men will now set out to give their league campaign boost by overcoming one of the newly-promoted teams on home soil this weekend. So far, the reigning Premier League champions have recorded just one win this season (a 2-1 win at home to Swansea) and fell 4-1 away to Liverpool in their last league encounter. They currently sit in 16th place in the league with a total of four points from four games.

Burnley are just one place above their opponents in the league table and are amongst the favourites for the drop this term. The highlight of their campaign so far was undoubtedly the shock 2-0 win over Liverpool in which they had just 20% possession and three shots on goal but came away with all three points. They come into this match on the back of a 1-1 draw at home to Hull City, a late goal earning a point for the visitors.

Team news

The home side will be without the injured Danny Simpson and Jeffrey Schlupp.

Meanwhile, the visitors have a full strength squad to choose from.

Betting odds and tips

Leicester City were impressive in mid-week and that game will have helped to erase the memory of the defeat to Liverpool. With Jamie Vardy returning to full fitness and Riyad Mahrez returning to form, they should be able to find a way past the resilient Burnley defence.
