Premier League preview and odds: Southampton vs Swansea City

September 18 , 2016 14:15pm - St. Mary’s Stadium

Premier League

Winless Southampton will look to climb out of the Premier League`s bottom three when they take on 13th-ranked Swansea at St. Mary`s Stadium on Sunday.

Saints struggling under new boss

Since new boss Claude Puel took over the reins at St. Mary`s back in the summer, Southampton have failed to win a single Premier League match. However, the Frenchman did lead his team to victory on the European stage on Thursday night with a win over Sparta Prague in the group stage of the Europa League.

The Euro game was notable for the performance of two-goal hero Charlie Austin, who will no doubt have put himself in contention for a start on Sunday. In total, the Southampton Coach made seven changes from the team that lost to Arsenal last weekend.

Meanwhile, Swansea have fared slightly better than their opponents, having kicked off their campaign with a win at Burnley (0-1) before falling the back-to-back defeats at home to Hull City (0-2) and away to the reigning champions Leicester City (2-1). They followed up those defeats by earning a hard-fought point at home to Chelsea last weekend (2-2).

Team news

Sofiane Boufal, Jeremy Pied and Florin Gardos are all still out of action for the home side.

Meanwhile, the visitors will have to make do without the services of Nathan Dyer.

Betting odds and tips

Both teams will come into this game on the back of positive results and improved performances. Much could depend on the starting XI that the Saints send out on Sunday, with Charlie Austin amongst those who have put themselves in the frame for a start.

Swansea looked much better against Chelsea last weekend and will hope to carry that form with them to the South Coast.

However, both sides would probably settle for a draw if offered. And that looks like the best bet on offer for this game.

Another tempting option is the 13/10 on offer for Charlie Austin to score anytime.

You can back the draw at 14/5 and Charlie Austin to score anytime at 13/10 - both with Bet365.
