RICHARDSON to have a field day against Chargers

The Monday night Football game (01:40, Eurosport) sees the AFC South-leading Indianapolis at San Diego. The Colts are the 9/10 (BETVICTOR) favourites as they look to build on a 4-1 start to the season that has also seen them win both of their road games. Indianapolis are under an exciting new era under second-year quarterback Andrew Luck who has lead them to four straight victories. The wins have been statement victories as well as they have secured victories against fancied outfits Seattle and San Francisco. The Chargers have been in and out this season and have a 2-3 record and are 1-1 at home. San Diego have victories against Philadelphia and Dallas and defeats to Houston, Tennessee and Oakland. Phillip Rivers is on song at the moment which will give San Diego hope as he has throw over 400 yards for three straight weeks and they can be backed at 11/10 (SPREADEX).

In terms of the head-to-head record well this favours the Chargers who have won five of the last six meetings between the duo though these sides have not met since November 2010. Phillip Rivers has featured in three of these games though throwing for 577 yards and completing 71.8% of his passes.

Running back Trent Richardson has yet to reach 80 yards in a game this season (either for the Colts or the Cleveland Browns) though he could be on for a breakout game against a Chargers defence allowing a league worst 6.5 yards per play. Richardson is 8/11 (CORAL/william hill) to score a touchdown anytime though I prefer taking him to rush for over 70.5 yards which is available 10/11 (SKYBET/ladbrokes). It is a step up in numbers but in the second half of the game against the Dolphins indicated this is highly possible. I also like the look of Danny Woodhead at 5/4 (ladbrokes) to grab a touchdown at anytime for San Diego. The Chargers running back is likely to feature more frequently with Ryan Mathews expected to miss the game. Woodhead has three touchdowns in his last two games and was Rivers favourite RedZone target last time out.

Indianapolis are the current 20/1 (william hill) seventh favourite for the Super Bowl crown alongside the 6-0 Kansas City Chiefs. The market is headed by the Denver Broncos who are 5/2 (bet365/paddy Power/ladbrokes) after a 6-0 start to the season. Seattle are next in the mix at 11/2 (GENERAL) after the Seahawks started the season with a 5-1 record. New Orleans Saints are also 5-1 after a narrow defeat to New England and are 8/1 (GENERAL) chance while the Patriots are 9/1 (BETVICTOR/STAN JAMES/william hill). The 49ers are also 9/1 (bet365/BWIN) while the Packers are 12/1 (GENERAL) .

Bookmakers have moved quickly to price the action for the following weekend and the pick of the games looks like being the late Sunday night/early Monday morning one between the Broncos and the Colts. The struggling Texans will not welcome a trip to the Chiefs while the Pats at the Jets is always a fierce battle.

The best bet for next weekend is in siding with the Rams who are getting a six point start in their visit to Carolina. The Panthers did beat the Vikings on Sunday but Minnesota have been poor this season. St Louis destroyed Houston last weekend and before that saw off Jacksonville. Get involved at the generous price of 10/11 (888 SPORT/unibet/YOU WIN).

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Rams +6 against Panthers, 10/11 (888 SPORT/unibet/YOU WIN)
SILVER: Trent Richardson over 70.5 yards, 10/11 (SKYBET/ladbrokes)
BRONZE: Danny Woodhead to score anytime TD v Colts, 5/4 (ladbrokes)
