Tottenham will be looking to make up ground on the top five with a victory against Newcastle United tomorrow. Should they beat the Magpies at St James Park and Southampton fail to get all three points from Stoke, Spurs would move into sixth with just goal difference separating themselves from fifth placed Liverpool. Mauricio Pochettino`s side could see out the weekend just four points off the Champions League spots, should Manchester City lose at home to West Ham United.

In contrast, Newcastle will be looking to further avoid plummeting towards the relegation zone after dropping out of the top 10 under caretaker manager John Carver. The North East club are just nine points from the dreaded drop zone, this being reduced to six should they lose to Tottenham and Burnley defeat Everton. With neither West Bromwich Albion nor Aston Villa playing this weekend, the Magpies cannot slide further down the table. A massive goal difference between themselves and 12th placed Everton means that also wouldn`t be able to climb up the top tier of English football.

The two sides have already met twice this season, one in the reverse Premier League fixture at White Hart Lane back in October, the other in the quarter-finals of the League Cup. Whilst Newcastle ran out the away winners in the league, Tottenham secured a cup victory to see them in the final four.

Emmanuel Adebayor scored the opening goal for Spurs in the club`s league encounter though the Magpies were able to bounce back in the second half to scoop their first away win of the season. Sammy Ameobi hit the equaliser just seconds into the second 45 for the side then under the premiership of Alan Pardew. Ayoze Perez hit the winner just 12 minutes later.

The price on another 2-1 win for Newcastle is 11/1, this being available at all of bet365, betfred and Coral. Whilst ladbrokes have the best price of 7/10 on both teams scoring tomorrow, betway have 5/4 on their being a one goal margin of victory between the two clubs. Stan James have 9/1 on Perez being the last goalscorer in tomorrow`s clash.

Pardew`s Newcastle failed to hit the back of the net in their League Cup quarter-finals, Spurs running out the 4-0 victors on this occasion. Just one goal was netted in the first half of the match-up with Nabil Bentaleb pouncing on a mistake from young goalkeeper Jan Alnwick just after the 15 minute mark.

Nacer Chadli added the Whites` second just a minute or so after the restart before Harry Kane netted goal number three and Roberto Soldado rounded off a good day for Spurs with 20 minutes still to play.

A massive 66/1 (Betvictor) is the best price on Pochettino`s men winning by four goals to nil once again whilst 10/3 (betfair, Spreadex) is the best price on Tottenham winning by any number of goals to nil. boylesports have 23/20 on the second 45 being the highest scoring half with Harry Kane a 13/10 (32red, 888sport, unibet) shout to hit the back of the net at any time.

Indeed their superior league position and their previous emphatic victory over the Magpies means that it is Tottenham who are the favourites to secure all three points against Newcastle tomorrow. All of betfred, Betvictor, Totesport and william hill have 11/8 on a win for the visitors. Otherwise both bet365 and Bwin have the best price on a home win, that being 23/10, with a draw available at 13/5 at boylesports.

Neither team are particularly in form with Spurs having failed to triumph in either of their last two matches and Newcastle having failed to win any of their last five.
