Premier League preview and odds: Leicester City vs Arsenal

August 20 , 2016 17:30pm - King Power Stadium

Premier League

Last season`s top two will try to register their first points of the season on Saturday evening as Premier League title holders Leicester City open their home account against visitors Arsenal at the King Power Stadium.

Early showdown for title hopefuls

Having bagged the Premier League crown last term, Leicester City must once again be considered title contenders - despite Coach Claudio Ranieri’s insistence that there are more chance of Extra Terrestrials visiting Piccadilly Circus than his side retaining their crown (Guardian).

However, they began their title defence in the worst possible way by losing 2-1 away to newly-promoted Hull city last weekend. While that result was disappointing, it is too early to make a considered judgement about how Leicester will fare this term. This weekend, they will get a chance to make amends against the team that finished just one place behind them in last year`s historic title race.

Like the home side, Arsenal failed to pick up any points in their opening game, having fallen 4-3 at home to Jurgen Klopp`s Liverpool. The Gunners started that match well and took the lead but were devastated by a 20-minute spell of scintillating football in which the Reds scored four goals to effectively put the game to bed.

Arsene Wenger will be looking for an instant response from his team but will once again have to field a makeshift defence due to ongoing injury issues.

Team news

Leicester will start the game with a full strength squad to choose from.

Meanwhile, the visitors will be without the injured group of Aaron Ramsey, Alex Iwobi, Gabriel Paulista, Per Mertesacker, Danny Welbeck and Carl Jenkinson.

Recent form (League)

Leicester City: LLLLW

Arsenal: LWWWW

Betting odds and tips

With either side desperate to get back to winning ways, this could be a nervy game in the opening exchanges. Arsenal`s defensive issues could once again cost them all three points with Jamie Vardy working his way back to sharpness.
