Like a pleasant starter before the mains a nice live Championship game takes place before the start of the Premier League on Saturday as Leeds play host to Wolves. Bookmakers make the hosts 6/4 (william hill) favourites while Wolves are 23/11 (pinnacle). The draw is also best priced at pinnacle who are going 52/21. Though a good match to watch it looks a tough one from a betting point of view and I would suggest keeping the stakes low with a first scorer bet. Luke Varney looked good in the League Cup and at 8/1 (Coral) looks good value in the first scorer market.

The best bet for me in the Championship this weekend is Sheffield Wednesday at 5/4 (paddy Power) in the draw no bet market. Wednesday will enter the season full of confidence after going a 14 game unbeaten run to end the season (winning 11 of these). Derby have taken only two points from their last three league games at home and the visitors look great value to start off in style.

The standout bet for me in League One is for Carlisle to get something at Stevenage. I like Carlisle at 13/8 (paddy Power) in the draw no bet market. Form suggests that Stevenage should win this with a good home record and a poor away record for Carlisle, but I think these two sides will be battling it out at different ends of the table this season. The other angle will be to take Lee Miller at 23/10 (paddy power) to score anytime in this match.

Into League Two I like the look of York to get their league campaign underway with all three points. The Ministermen were unlucky not to get anything from their visit of Doncaster in the League Cup and will enter full of confidence on the back of a run in the league that has seem them win seven and lose none of their nine games (including play-offs). Wycombe have lost five of their last six in all competitions and had a poor pre-season. The 13/8 william hill are offering is very generous.

The pick of the bets in the Conference Premier is Gateshead at 7/5 to see off Fleetwood Town. The Heed got off to a quick start against Luton last week running out 2-0 early leaders before being pegged back to 2-2. They then ran out comfortable 4-1 winners over Mansfield and should have too much for Forest Green. Though their visitors are themselves unbeaten a home draw with Cambridge and an away win at Telford are not quite as impressive as the results of the home side. Take the 7/5 with Coral and william hill.

Celtic return to action in the SPL and will be hoping to hand Ross County their first defeat in a year. The Bhoys are an uncompetitive 1/2(general) while the draw is 7/2 (BetVictor/paddy Power) and Ross County 7/1 (sportingbet/32 Red). The game is being televised and for those who want a bet then keep in mind Celtic have an important Champions League coming up on Tuesday, suggestion is to keep the stakes low and give Kris Commons (6/1-ladbrokes/Coral) an investment in the first scorer market.

The other stand out bet in the SPL is St Mirren to see off Hibernian. We did warn last week that the Hibees would be up for their game with Hearts, but this weekend is a different story. St Mirren have started the season well gaining four points from two games, Hibs should be boosted by the result last week but naturally the performance and energy levels may drop a little and the 11/8 (william hill) on a home victory looks worth investing in.
