The league with more names than Puff Daddy/P Diddy/Sean Coombs gets underway this weekend as top flight Spanish football returns, but will it be Real or Barca celebrating this time?

La Liga/Primera Division, whatever you want to call it the results will still be the same, two teams look set to dominate this season and once more it will be between Real Madridd and Barcelona. Madrid are the understandable favourites after finally taking power off Barcelona last season. 10/11 (32 Red) is the best price on them successfully defending their title this season. Jose Mourinho and his men must be confident, gone is Pep Guardiola from their chief rivals while they are expected to add Luca Modric to a midfield that already features Sami Khedira, Xabi Alonso, Mesut Ozil, Angel Di Maria and Cristiano Ronaldo. This is a quality side and one that looks hard to beat, but I will not be rushing in at 10/11.

Barcelona are 6/5 (Bodog) which if any is the marginal value. Heavy hitters might be tempted to invest in Barcelona and then hope to get Real Madrid on side as well during the season. Though Guardiola is gone, playing wise Barca look to be stronger than last this season. David Villa will be back and new full-back Jordi Alba is an exciting add and this is before you even get to the talent of Messi, Xabi and Iniesta.

Outside of these two than you have no hopers. The only way to play it is in the betting without Barcelona and Real Madrid market. Valencia look the best bet here at 5/2 (general), Malaga are a mess this season after losing their financial backing. Bilbao seem intent on selling their best players and Atletico Madrid will not be as strong without Diego.

The top scorer market agains looks a two-way battle. Cristiano Ronaldo is 11/10 (general) while Lionel Messi is 6/5 (general), any other player is priced at 13/2 (Stan James). These two players grabbed 96 goals between them last season. The gap to the next player in the market was 22 goals. If you want to bet on a player but don’t want to have to worry about Messi and Ronaldo then Skybet are offering the chance to bet without the pair. Falcao who came third to the pair last season is the 5/1 joint second favourite alongside Higuain (and behind Benzema). The market does offer the chance to play each-way with a third of the odds the top three and it might be worth backing Ruben Castro at 40/1. The Betis striker grabbed 16 in the league last season including an explosive ten in the last 17 games (which featured two against Barcelona on the last day).

The relegation market is headed by Rayo Vallecano at evens (all prices quoted Sporting Bet) and Valladolid at 23/10. Granada at 2/1 offer some appeal as the finished just one place and one point above the drop last season.

The opening weekend sees at home to Real Sociedad a side they have won 17 of their last 18 home league games against. 1/9 (ladbrokes) is the best price a Barcelona victory while Messi is 9/5 (general) to score the first goal. Jordi Alba is a very attacking full-back and the 9/2 (Skybet) on him to score at anytime could be worth a small interest. Real Madrid are also expected to coast through their opener against Valencia and are 2/7 (william hill/ladbrokes) for victory. Take Madrid -1.75 on the Asian Handicap at 28/29 with 188bet. Each of their last 22 home wins for Madrid have come by two goals or more.
