Jonas Blixt was the winner of the Frys.Com Open and he is 20/1 (sportingbet) for victory on the tour this weekend in the McGladrey Classic. The Swedish rookie could well be in the mix here though it might be a little early to have him down as the kind of golfer who can win events in successive weeks.

The tournament favourite is Zach Johnson at 13/1 (You win-note You Win do not pay EW). The American tied for 12th here in 2010 though he did miss the cut last year. The last time he was on the golf course Johnson was tied 15th at East Lake. The Seaside course is ranked amongst the toughest on the tour in putting and you will need a player this week who can do the business with the putter and join lies in the top 20 in important putting categories. He is a player who is a deserved favourite and commands respect however better value can be had with others at a bigger price. I’m going to take a chance on Vijay Singh at 22/1 (bet365/Skybet/sportingbet). The Fijian has looked a different player after altering the grip on his putter and he finished tied 4th last weekend. Confidence is growing and Singh is a player who did very well in the putting stats at the Frys.Com Open, he has to be worth chancing at those odds.

Others expected to be in the mix are Jim Furyk 14/1 (general, Jason Day 16/1 (Coral) and Jeff Overton 25/1 (general) all three of whom could go close.

Another player I like is Michael Thompson at 30/1 (bet365/boylesports/paddy Power). The American is a very talented putter who has a great record here. Thompson has won an amateur event on this very course while last year he finished just one shot off the lead in third. Recent form is good too with a tied 13th finish in the JT Shriners to his name. The last selection is one at even bigger price which is Martin Flores at 100/1 (general). Flores is one of the best putters on the tour (he ranks 13th in strokes gained). Flores was tied 11th last week in the Frys.Com Open and has eight top 25 finishes to his name this season.

Jason Duffner and Charl Schwartzel are among the players in action in Perth this week for the ISPS Handa Perth International. World number nine Duffner is a best priced 6/1 (sportingbet/ladbrokes) and Schwartzel 7/1 (ladbrokes). Lake Karryinup Country Club is the venue for this the richest golf tournament in Australia. The course is considered to be quite hilly and is affected by blowing winds and is said to have conditions that favour the long hitters. Going back to 2002 and 2003 when this venue was used on the European Tour this rings true as Retief Goosen and Ernie Els were the victors. Those looking for an interest in this event could do worse than taking the EW chances of Brett Rumford who can backed at 25/1 (general). The Perth native is a three time winner on the European Tour and will know the course better than almost all. His form is good as well with a top 25 finish in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship last time out on course and a second in the Johnnie Walker Championship at GlenEagles. Also look for Paul Casey as he is a talented golfer who looks overpriced at 40/1 (Sportingbet). The Englishman will no doubt be full of confidence after being part of the successful Ryder Cup team.
