Europa League

The Europa League continues this Thursday as the quarter-final second legs take place and here is our guide to the best of the bets from these games.

Bookmakers have Chelsea as the 15/8 (BetVictor) favourites for the Europa League and the London side are 3-1 ahead from the first leg against Rubin Kazan. The second leg gets underway at 1700 (GMT) so don’t get caught out by this. The Russians are 7/4 (general) for victory in this game though are as big as 5/1 (general) to qualify. Chelsea are 1/7 (general) to qualify and are 30/17 (pinnacle) to win on the night while the draw is available at 41/17 (pinnacle). Those looking for a bet on the game could do worse than a little interest on NO in the both teams to score market. boylesports/ladbrokes and 188 Bet are going evens on this price yet this bet would have paid in five of the last six Chelsea away matches in this competition and in each of the last six Rubin home games in this competition.

Benfica are the second favourites for the competition 11/4 (betway) and the side from Portugal are 3-1 up from the first leg against Newcastle. The visitors are the 8/5 (Totesport/betfred/Stan James) favourites to defeat the English side. Newcastle are available at 29/13 (Pinnacle) to win on the night or 11/2 (bet365/paddy Power/BWin) to qualify. The best way to play this game could be in scorer markets where Moussa Sissoko is 9/1 (general) to score first or 10/3 (888 Sport) to score anytime. This looks a big price on a player who will play just off the striker for the home team. Sissoko has netted three times in his last six home games.

For weeks I have been singing the praises of Basel in the Europa League as they continued to be under-estimated by bookmakers. The secret is out now though after a 2-2 draw at White Hart Lane in a game they should have won having gone 2-0 ahead. Odds of 8/5 (888 Sport) on a home victory are probably about right with Tottenham 45/23 (Pinnacle) and 34/13 (Pinnacle) the draw. I think this is a very tough game to call as you have the Swiss side who are in great form at home but Tottenham are not quite the man team that people have suggested they are. If you want a bet on this game then you could do worse then having a little interest on Gylfi Sigurdsson in the scorer markets. The player has netted in his last two games and started at the weekend against Everton. At 10/1 (bet365/ladbrokes/188 Bet) he looks value to score first or 10/3 (888 Sport/ladbrokes/Coral).

The remaining game in the Europa League is the one between Lazio and Fenerbahce are 2-0 up from the first leg. The Turkish side is 2/9 (betfred) to qualify while if you think the Italians can find a way through you can get them at 9/2 (Coral). Lazio are 11/12 (Pinnacle) to win on the night and this looks the way to play this as the Serie A side have won 11 of their last 15 home games including four of their last five. The Turkish side have a two goal advantage from the first leg and know they can afford to lose and still progress to the next round. Lazio will come out firing and should have enough to at least win on the night.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Lazio to beat Fenerbahce, 11/12 (Pinnacle)
SILVER: Moussa Sissoko to score v Benfica, first 9/1 (general), anytime 10/3 (888 Sport)
BRONZE: No on both teams to score between Rubin and Chelsea, evens (ladbrokes/boylesports/188 Bet)
