The Championship is tighter than a really tight thing as shown by Middlesbrough in ninth place who are seven points from the play-offs and eight from relegation. With five games to go almost every side has something to play for which makes it a fascinating league. Here is our guide to the best of the bets from this division.

The lunchtime game sees Leeds up against Sheffield Wednesday in a Yorkshire derby. Weeks ago Leeds were dreaming of the play-offs but now they need to start looking over their shoulder at the relegation trapdoor. I was hoping that bookmakers might have given a little more than the 21/10 (general) on an Owls victory. Leeds enter this game on the back of a four game losing streak while Wednesday have won three and drawn one of their last four. Those looking for an interest in the game could do worse than try the 25/1 (betfred) are offering on Miguel Llera in the first scorer market. No defender has scored more than him in the Championship this season (six) and Leeds are struggling at the back. Llera is also 15/2 (paddy Power) in the anytime scorer market.

One of the best bets in the Championship is in taking Barnsley to see off Charlton at Oakwell. The Tykes have picked up two very useful draws at Cardiff and Palace on their travels and have taken all three points in seven of their last eight home games. Visitors Charlton have picked up a little form themselves but with safety secured for them I can see the foot coming off the gas a little. The head-to-head record also favours Barnsley with them going unbeaten in the last six meetings between these sides and the Addicks failing to score in three of these last four games. Take the Yorkshide side at 13/10 (bet365/BetVictor/william hill).

Despite the fact that I tipped them up for relegation a good few months ago I have to accept Ipswich should be safe and I expect them to confirm that on Saturday with a victory over Hull. BetVictor are offering a very generous 2/1 on an Ipswich victory and this looks good on a side unbeaten in their last five games. Portman Road has proven to be a fortress in recent times with nine points from their last three home games and just one defeat in the last six. Leeds, Bolton, Leicester have all lost at Ipswich in recent weeks and none of them even managed to find the back of the net. Hull have won their last two away games though these came at Burnley and Huddersfield neither of whom are playing very well. Before that though they won just one of their last six away games (losing three of these) and I think Ipswich can carry their form on here in a battle of two former Sunderland managers (Mick McCarthy and Steve Bruce).

The bet that stands out in the Championship is in taking Wolves to see off Huddersfield at 5/4 (BetVictor/william hill) in a crucial game at the bottom. Wolves have won three of their last four with their only defeat coming at high-flying Bolton. Visiting Huddersfield have started to pick up a few points though these have come from sides like Burnley, Middlesbrough and Leeds who are badly out of form. I have seen nothing to suggest that they can get anything from this game and will be on Wolves.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Wolves to beat Huddersfield, 5/4 (BetVictor/William Hill)
SILVER: Barnsley to beat Charlton, 13/10 (bet365/BetVictor/William Hill)
BRONZE: Ipswich to beat Hull, 2/1 (BetVictor)
