A number of games take place in the Football League on Tuesday and Wednesday night and here is our guide to the action.

Two games take place in the Championship Tuesday night the first of which pitches leaders Cardiff against struggling Barnsley. The Bluebirds can go eight points clear if they win this game in hand though the Tykes are themselves in good form. I know some people will be tempted to add Cardiff to their accumulators but I would be careful as 9/13 (pinnacle) is giving nothing away especially with the pressure on the home side. Barnsley will make things difficult and at 5/1 (Skybet) look tempting though with a few better bets available on the night I will sit this one out.

Millwall and Sheffield Wednesday also meet that night and I like the look of Wednesday to get something from the game and they can be backed at 6/5 (BetVictor/paddy Power) in the draw no bet market. Wednesday have lost just one of their last five (and this was against leaders Cardiff). Millwall are unbeaten in their last six though at home they are not doing so well with no win in their last five in the league. In addition the Lions have the distraction of a big FA Cup semi-final with Wigan at the weekend. Take the Owls in the draw no bet market.

In League One four games take place on the Tuesday and one on the Wednesday night. Leaders Doncaster can extend their lead at the top to five points if they win their home game with Carlisle. Carlisle though are in reasonable form at the moment with a win and three draws from their last four. Rovers would be confident of victory here though odds of 8/11 (william hill) do not appeal. Carlisle did get a point at Sheff United recently and won at Oldham on Saturday. Pressure is a funny thing and Rovers have it all on their own shoulders while Carlisle sit comfortably in mid-table. Take the Cumbrains then with +0.75 on the Asian Handicap which is 20/19 (188Bet). This bet will pay out a win if Carlisle win or draw and only as a half loss if they lose by one. Rovers have won just two of their last 12 home games by more than one goal.

Also in League One Sheff Utd take on Crawley at Bramall Lane with a win from the home side moving them into third and just three points off Bournemouth with two games in hand. Swindon will try keep their play-off hopes alive at the MK Dons who also have play-off ambitions of their own. Brentford meanwhile play at Crewe on Wednesday night. Also struggling Oldham will be desperate for all three points when they travel to Preston.

Down into League Two and five games are scheduled to take place over Tuesday and Wednesday night. Second placed Port Vale are among those in action as they play host to Aldershot. Vale are 3/4(BetVictor) a crucial victory that would put them closer to promotion to League One. Vale will be full of confidence after a remarkable 7-1 destruction of Burton on Friday evening. They should see off Aldershot but the price offers no value.

The best bet in this division is taking Rochdale to see off Southend at 6/4 (boylesports/888 Sport) on Wednesday evening. Southend had the disappointment of a cup loss on Sunday and with the play-offs a distant memory it might be hard to get themselves up for the rest of the season. Rochdale have lost just one of their last seven and none of the last four. Recent wins at Exeter and Fleetwood show they are playing well and look worth siding with at home.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Sheff Wed to beat Millwall, draw no bet, 6/5 (BetVictor/paddy Power)
SILVER: Carlisle +0.75 on Asian Handicap v Doncaster, 20/19 (188 Bet)
BRONZE: Rochdale to beat Southend, 6/4 (boylesports/888 Sport)
