Just two games take place in the Premier League this Sunday but they are crucial ones at the bottom of the table. Here is our guide to the best of the bets from these fixtures.

The action off the pitch might be more enjoyable than the action on the pitch when Newcastle take on Sunderland in the North Eastern derby. In the Blue (or black and white) corner we have Alan Pardew who loves a good celebration and was in the arms of the crowd last weekend when a late goal from the Magpies handed them a crucial three points. In the Red corner we have Paulo Di Canio who there is never a dull moment with.

Take two passionate managers, throw in a local derby and add the extra spice of a battle for relegation and you have the recipe for a tasty battle. Just to showcase how passionate this game is note there have been five red cards in the last five league meeting between these sides.

The advice from a betting point of view is to back a couple of players to be booked. Yohan Cabaye looks the choice from Newcastle at 11/8 (BetVictor) in the anytime booking market. The Frenchman has been booked six times in twenty appearances this season and has been booked in five of his last 13 appearances in all competitions. I also like the 13/8 (BetVictor) on Alfred N’Diaye to be booked at anytime. The French player has been booked three times in the last five and was a regular in the notebook of the ref at Bursaspor.

In terms of the game itself then Newcastle are the deserved favourites at 20/21 (boylesports). The price does not inspire a rush to bet though bearing in mind Newcastle had a game with Benfica on Thursday and they do have that little extra security that Sunderland do not have. The Black Cats are 70/19 (pinnacle) for victory while the draw is a very real option at 13/5 (BetVictor).

The other game that day is between Stoke and Man United which is a must win for Stoke. Must win though does not always result in a win and it would be a shock if a badly out of sorts Stoke side could get anything out of the Red Devils. Bookmakers make United the 8/13 (general) favourites for victory and although they lost to City on Monday night they should have too much for the hosts who are available at 29/5 (You Win) while the draw is a best priced at 49/16 (pinnacle).

Perhaps the best way to play the game is in the goalscorer market with two games in the space of a week it is hard to know just how United will line up but against Stoke defence that is leaking goals then any of the forwards will fancy their chances. I am amazed to see any of the big trio better than evens in the anytime scorer market and depending on if he starts I really like the look of Rooney at 31/20 (Sporting Bet) in the anytime scorer market. If Rooney does not start and Hernandez gets the nod then the 19/10 (BWin) on him to score anytime also looks value.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Wayne Rooney to score anytime v Stoke, 31/20 (Sporting Bet)
SILVER: Alfred N’Diaye to be booked v Newcastle, 13/8 (BetVictor)
BRONZE: Yohan Cabaye to be booked v Sunderland, 11/8 (BetVictor)
