Skybet are the first to be priced up on the Topscorer markets in the Championship, let us have a look to see if we can pick up some early value.

The first thing to consider in the market is the historical trends, the top three in the betting last year (Rickie Lambert, Ricardo Vaz Te, Billy Sharp) all played for sides that got promoted (although Sharp and Vaz Te moved in the January transfer window). It is important to be playing for a club doing well, not just because they are among the goals, but because there is less risk of your player moving on. A player challenging with a team pushing for the Premier League is more likely to turn down a January move to the Premier League than a striker banging them in for a mid-table or struggling team.

So let us look some of the players in the mix. The market is headed by Jordan Rhodes and Steven Fletcher at 8/1. No doubt both players know where the goal is, but it will be a surprise if both players are playing in the Championship come the end of August. Both have been linked with a number of moves and with Fletcher having proven Premier League class he will be expected to move on. Rhodes is the more likely to stay, but will have his suitors and we may find his 37 goals in League One means he makes the jump to the Premier League without ever testing himself in the Championship.

Kevin Doyle at 10/1 is next in the mix and the Wolves man might find himself back among the goals at this leve,l but with just 18 goals from 93 Wolves appearances it does not look a great bet. Also at 10/1 are Leon Best who has just signed for Newcastle and Birmingham striker Marlon King. Best will hope to fill the goal void for Blackburn left by the exit of Yakubu and Junior Hoilett and if he gets the ground running could be among the goals, but looks little value at this price. Marlon King is a proven scorer at this level with 18 goals and will certainly be in the running once again.

Of the players still in the Championship this season, Ross McCormack is the Leading scorer still remaining. The Scot netted 18 for Leeds last season. McCormack though dried up at the end of last season netting just three in his last 15 games and at 14/1 seems to be present too much risk for the rewards.

Some people might be interested in Bradley Wright-Phillips who netted 22 goals for Charlton last season at 16/1, while Charlie Austin who grabbed 16 goals for Burnley last season will also have his supporters at that price.

So where should your money be going then? Michael Chopra is the first recommendation. Chopra and Ipswich had a tough season last time out, but signs of good things were coming at the end. Ipswich have been ambitious in the transfer market and with a proven record of finding goals at this level looks decent value at 18/1. Matty Fryatt is another proven scorer at this level having grabbed 16 for Hull last season and a number of goals from his time at Leicester. The introduction of new manager Steve Bruce could bring new life out of Fryatt and 28/1 looks real value.

At even bigger prices Emile Sinclair looks a great bet at 80/1. The striker showed some raw glimpses of talent in his first season in the Championship grabbing ten goals and if he can get a regular run in the first team this could be a great price as Peterborough are a side who like to attack and have some creative options.
