Millwall Look To Safety With Blackburn Win

Championship

Millwall travel to Blackburn Rovers` Ewood Park this evening knowing that a victory over the Lancashire club would see them just one point from safety. Failing to record an away win would see the Lions need a full six points from their final two games of the season, this being down to Rotherham`s far superior goal difference.

The Lions currently sit in 22nd position in the Championship, 15 points above the already relegated Blackpool and one point better off than Wigan with whom they are tussling for survival. Rotherham are the only club that these two can feasibly catch as though Brighton are theoretically within Millwall`s grasp, the Lions would need a 22 goal swing to replace them should they ever be level on points.

Their opponents tonight are Blackburn who will just be trying to sustain their ninth position after missing out on the play-offs and being unable to rise further up the table. Failing to pick up all three points could see them usurped by all of Charlton Athletic, Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday.

These two sides met in November at the Den in what was the reverse Championship fixture. With the hosts under their former manager Ian Holloway, the club managed to secure a 2-2 draw, the home side not helped by the fact that they saw defender Andy Wilkinson see red for a poorly timed tackle.

Only Blackburn`s Shane Duffy was able to find the back of the net in the first half with Rudy Gestede doubling their advantage 20 minutes into the second 45. Lee Martin reduced the deficit for the London club before parity was restored through Shaun Williams just two minutes from time.

William Hill have the best price of 16/1 on this encounter ending 2-2 once again. Alternatively, 16/1 says that Blackburn will be leading at half time with the match all square at the end of the 90 minutes. All of 32red, 888sport and unibet have 4/1 on there being a sending off at any point during the match-up with Duffy a 28/1 (betfred, Betvictor) shot to break the deadlock once again.

Indeed despite being unable to get the better of Millwall in their last Championship tie, Rovers` home advantage and superior league position means that they are the favourites to take all three points from tonight`s fixture. Gary Bowyer`s men can be backed at the best price of 11/10. This price can be found at most bookmakers. A trio of bookies (888sport, boylesports, unibet) say that the Lions will be able to move to within a point of Rotherham thanks to an away win whilst it is 13/5 (betfred, Betvictor, Totesport) should you fancy a second straight draw between the two sides.

Blackburn have failed to win any of their last three league games, earning themselves just three points after three straight draws. They have, however, scored a total of five goals in their last two matches and can be backed at 21/20 (betfair, boylesports, Coral, william hill) to hit over 1.5 goals past Millwall. Gestede was responsible for a hat-trick in their last match against Nottingham Forest at the weekend. He is available at 7/4 (betfred) to score at any time whilst 10/1 (unibet) says he scores two or more goals once again.

Neil Harris` visitors have lost just once in their last six Championship games, winning twice. They have also picked up consecutive clean sheets after recording a 2-0 win over fellow strugglers Wigan a week ago before last weekend`s goalless draw with Cardiff. Spreadex`s 7/2 is the best price on the away side keeping a clean sheet tonight.
