This week, the ATP Tour continues it`s progress through Europe and arrives in Basel, Switzerland for an indoor tournament featuring home favourites Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka as well as Spaniard Rafael Nadal.

Nadal has not featured in this tournament for many years and despite the fact that the is 11/4 second favourite with SkyBet to win the event, the world number 3 has been struggling to over come a wrist injury and also appendicitis, which troubled him during his time in Asia. Rumour has it that Nadal has delayed an operation on this in order to be able to continue playing using antibiotics, which does not offer much confidence in backing him to win the tournament. However, a comfortable victory in the opening round against Simone Bolelli will have done him a lot of good and his movement looked much superior to that shown in his first round defeat at the Shanghai Masters.

The number one seed for event is Roger Federer and he is aiming to claim his sixth title at his home tournament. Still riding high on the fantastic victory in the final of the Shanghai Masters against world number 1 Novak Djokovic, Federer will feel good going in to this one and is rightly the favourite at 13/8 with betfred to add to his previous five successes in Basel. The current world number 2 opens off with a match against Gilles Muller and is overwhelming favourite to come through it at 1/14 with Coral.

Fellow Swiss player Stan Wawrinka opens off his campaign with an interesting match against Mikhail Kukushkin, who put in a strong performance when up against Novak Djokovic in Shanghai. Wawrinka is 1/3 favourite to come through against Kukushkin with SkyBet and 10/1 with boylesports to go all the way and lift the trophy. If Wawrinka is to do this, the likelihood is that he will need to defeat either Lukas Rosol or Ivo Karlovic in the quater-finals. The home crowd will be hoping he can do this and set up an all Swiss semi-final against Federer. The match between Karlovic and Rosol could be a tight affair and either player is capable of playing well enough to beat Wawrinka if they can get through their opening match against each other. Karlovic is 40/1 with ladbrokes to win the event, with Rosol priced at 80/1 with paddypower.

Other challengers to look out for include Canada`s Milos Raonic, who is currently sitting tenth in the race to London standings and needs points here if he is to make it to the end of season event. Raonic is 8/1 with william hill to win in Basel and 2/7 favourite to win his opening match against Steve Johnson. Grigor Dimitrov is another player who is in search of race to London points and he opens off against Alexander Zverev, a match the Bulgarian is strong favourite to win. Dimitrov is 10/1 with ladbrokes to go all the way and win the ATP Basel.

However, there is little doubt that Roger Federer is the clear favourite for this event, he is in form and would love to add another title to the five he has already won in Basel. If anyone is going to stop him, it`s likely to be one of the players aiming for important ranking points such as Raonic or Dimitrov.
