Australian Open fourth seed Petra Kvitova fell to a shock defeat at the hands of US youngster Madison Keys today, the 19-year-old recording a 6-4, 7-5 victory over the Czech player.

The win has earned Keys her best ever Grand Slam finish regardless of her forthcoming results. She faces off against namesake and compatriot Madison Brengle on Monday in an effort to make her first ever Grand Slam quarter-final.

No stranger to an upset herself, Brengle took down world number 13 Andrea Petrovic in three sets in the first round. The 24-year-old having to come from a set down to record the surprising win 5-7, 7-6, 6-3.

She has since met two Americans in her second and third round matches, beating both in straight sets. Irina Falconi crumbled 6-1, 6-3, whilst Coco Vandeweghe lost 6-3, 6-2.

Prior to her result over Kvitova, Keys had seen off Lesia Tsurenko of Ukraine (6-3, 7-5) and Australian Casey Dellacqua (2-6, 6-1, 6-1).

As a result of this, and the fact that Keys beat Brengle in the US Open in their only WTA on-court meeting back in 2010, the former is the favourite for the tie, available at 2/5 with Betvictor and Coral. Most bookmakers have priced Brengle up at 9/4 for the victory down under.

Keys put the 24-year-old to the sword in straight sets at Flushing Meadows and is 21/20 with william hill to do so again. A two set victory to Brengle is best priced 11/2 with ladbrokes.

Elsewhere in the women`s singles division, second seed Maria Sharapova takes on Shuai Peng tomorrow whilst Monday sees tournament favourite Serena Williams clash with Garbine Muguruza of Venezuela.

Sharapova looks to be in top form after giving away only two games to Kazakhstani Zarina Diyas in the third round. The five-time Grand Slam winner had previously seen off Croatian Petra Martic in straight sets, that match ending 6-4, 6-4, before winning in three against fellow Russian Alexandra Panova in the competition`s second stage. That tie ended 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 to Sharapova.

Unlike Sharapova, Peng has beaten all her opponents in straight sets and the one-time Grand Slam semi-finalist looks well placed to be able to give her opponent a match tomorrow.

Peng passed German Tatjana Maria 6-4, 7-5 in the first round before conceding only two games to Magdalena Rybarikova in the competition`s second stage. The 29-year-old then held on through a first set tie break to defeat Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan 7-6 (9-7), 6-3.

Sharapova and Peng have met on five previous occasions with the Russian holding a 4-1 record over her Chinese opponent. On hard, their head-to-head is tied one-all with the two last having met at Roland Garros on clay back in 2012. Sharapova was the straight sets victor of that encounter.

As a result, she is the favourite to get the better of her rival once again with Titanbet pricing up the 2008 Australian Open winner at 1/7. Peng is a 6/1 shot (boylesports) and is 14/1 with the same bookmaker to continue her run of straight set victories.

Williams is the strong favourite to progress through to the quarter-finals on Monday, though the 33-year-old has never met her 21-year-old opponent on court.

World number one Williams, the 2/9 favourite for the encounter, put Alison Van Uytvanck to the sword in the first round, the match finishing 6-0, 6-4 against the Belgian. In round two she met Vera Zvonareva and survived an early scare to finish off the Russian 7-5, 6-0. The 18-time Grand Slam winner saved three set points when 5-3 down to take the first set in some style.

She once again had to fight back against Elina Svitolina of Ukraine, losing the first set 6-4. Williams showed grit to secure the second set 6-2 before her opponent started to flounder, falling to a 6-0 defeat in the last.

Muguruza has been priced up at 4/1 for the clash and is 6/4 with ladbrokes to simply win a set.
