Southampton vs. Swansea - Betting preview and odds

September 26, 2015 15:00pm - St Mary’s Stadium

Premier League

Two of last year’s most entertaining teams will battle it out for the points when Southampton take on Swansea on the South Coast this Saturday afternoon.

Southampton yet to impress

With six games gone, the home side have so far failed to live up to the expectations set by last year’s cavalier league campaign. With just one win to their name, Ronald Koeman’s team are slowly sinking towards the murky depths of the relegation zone.

A gutsy performance on home soil against an in-form Manchester United team last week may not have earned them any points, but it certainly provided Saints fans with some reasons to remain optimistic.

Swans making steady progress

Meanwhile, Garry Monk’s Swansea team continue to go about their business in a quiet and professional manner. The Welsh club are currently sitting comfortably in seventh-place in the table having lost just a single game (away to Watford). They followed up that defeat with a well-earned draw at home to Everton last week, and will be confident of bringing home a point or more from their trip to the South of England on Saturday.

Team news

Southampton will be hoping that Graziano Pelle and Jordy Clasie recover in time for this weekend’s game after both players suffered minor ankle injuries. Florin Gardos (knee) and Fraser Forster (knee) both remain long-term absentees.

Meanwhile, the Swans are in the fortunate position of a having an injury-free squad to choose from.

Betting odds and tips

The bookmakers have the home side as slight favourites for this one, but with only one win this season and injury concerns ahead of this game, they are by no means a safe bet. Much could ride on the fitness of key players Graziano Pelle and Jordy Clasie. If they are both included then the Saints will stand a much better chance of taking something from this game.

A fairly open and competitive encounter can be expected, and that should suit the visitors - however, both teams are strong defensively, so a low goal count is likely. Swansea have made a solid start to the season and have never really looked vulnerable - even in the defeat away to Watford. They have a full strength squad available and should have enough quality to avoid a second loss this weekend.

The Swansea-draw Double Chance is available at 5/6 with Bet365 and is definitely worth looking at. As is the 13/5 on offer from 10bet for Bafetimbi Gomis to score anytime.
