Premier League preview and odds: Arsenal vs Chelsea

September 24 , 2016 17:30pm - Emirates Stadium

Premier League

Arsenal and Chelsea will go head-to-head at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday evening with just goal difference separating the two sides in the Premier League standings.

Table neighbours jostle for place in top four

After an early season wobble which saw them beaten 2-4 on home soil by Liverpool and held 0-0 away to Leicester City, Arsenal have bucked up their ideas and gone on a three-game winning streak.

Having brush aside lower table opposition such as Hull City, Watford and Southampton, they must now face one of their direct top-four rivals on home soil. The Gunners come into this game on the back of a 4-0 away win against Nottingham Forest in the English League Cup. In their last league game they also bagged four goals on the road at Hull City.

While Arsenal started poorly and improved, Chelsea flew out of the blocks before a recent stumble displayed a glimpse of vulnerability at the London club. Having kicked off the season with three-straight wins over West Ham United, Watford and Burnley, the Blues were held 2-2 at Swansea and then turned over 2-1 by Jurgen Klopp`s Liverpool in their own back yard.

Defeat on Saturday could leave Antonio Conte`s men eight points adrift in the title race - a prize that many tipped them for before a ball had been kicked. After being dominated by Liverpool last week, they will be keen to keep things tight on Saturday against a team that has found the scoring touch in the last week.

Team news

Arsenal`s ongoing injury issues are far from over with Olivier Giroud, Aaron Ramsey, Carl Jenkinson, Per Mertesacker and Danny Welbeck all still out of action.

Meanwhile, the visitors will have to make do without Marco van Ginkel, John Terry and Kurt Zouma.

Betting odds and tips

Arsenal are the form team coming into this game, having remained unbeaten in the last six games in all competitions since losing at home on the opening day.

Chelsea got back to winning ways against Leicester City in the League Cup on Tuesday but probably could have done without the extra 30 minutes playing time. There are also question marks over the defensive pairing of Gary Cahill and David Luiz who will continue together at the back in the absence of John Terry.
