Can QPR Escape Drop Zone With Hammers Win?

Premier League

Queens Park Rangers host West Ham United this afternoon knowing that a victory would more than likely see them escape the relegation zone for a week. Rangers currently sit in 19th in the Premier League, level on points with bottom side Burnley. Beating West Ham could see the club propelled as high as 16th, such is their superior goal difference to those sides around them. Being usurped in this scenario would be the likes of Leicester, Hull and Sunderland. QPR would then be a point clear of the dreaded drop zone.

Losing to the Hammers at home could see the Hoops stranded at the bottom of the Premier League. Should they lose at Loftus Road and 17th placed Hull beat Crystal Palace, the London club will be a full five points off safety.

Very little is up for grabs for West Ham though Sam Allardyce`s side will be looking to finish the season in the best possible position. The Iron currently occupy 10th place though could move up one should Stoke fail to get the better of Sunderland this afternoon. Failing to beat the strugglers would see the Upton Park outfit drop into 12th should both Crystal Palace and Everton beat their respective opponents.

The two sides last met in October in the reverse Premier League fixture at the Hammers` Upton Park. It was the hosts that managed to claim all three points from the encounter, West Ham hitting two goals without reply.

The deadlock was broken just five minutes into the game as Nedum Onuoha put the ball past Rob Green in his own net to give the home side the advantage. The game remained at 1-0 until early into the second half when Diafra Sakho doubled his team`s tally. QPR would fail to respond. It is worth noting that QPR were still under the stewardship of former manager Harry Redknapp before he was replaced with successor Chris Ramsay.

Betvictor`s massive 19/1 says that West Ham will win by two goals to nil once again today with Allardyce`s men on offer at 5/1 (bet365, Betvictor, Coral, Totesport) to win by any number of goals to nil. Whilst boylesports have 20/1 on the first goal being an own-goal, most bookmakers have 6/1 on Sakho being the last goalscorer this time around.

These such large prices are due to the fact that it is Queens Park Rangers who are the favourites to secure a victory at home. Ramsay`s men can be backed at 7/5 at all of betfred, Betvictor, Totesport and william hill. Alternatively, the visitors are up for grabs at 9/4 at both bet365 and Coral to do the double over the Hoops. The best price of 27/11 (888sport, Betbright, unibet) says that the game will end tied.

The Loftus Road side have earned themselves four points from their last three matches, their only defeat in this period a hard fought 1-0 loss at home to league leaders Chelsea. Should they beat the Iron this afternoon, QPR will put an end to a run of six straight home defeats. They have not scored more than one home goal in any one match for at least eight games and betfred have the best price of 8/11 on the hosts scoring under 1.5 goals this afternoon.

West Ham will be looking to end a run of three games without a win, earning themselves just one point from a maximum of nine. The Iron are also seven away matches without victory, having earned themselves just three points in this period. From these seven matches, they have scored just four goals.

With this match one between two low scoring, out-of-form sides, 11/1 (Numerous) says neither club will score and the game will end goalless.
