Manchester City will be able to reclaim second place this evening should they be able to see off Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium. The Sky Blues are currently two points behind Arsenal, the current second placed side, and one point off arch rivals Manchester United in third. Securing a victory over the FA Cup finalists would see City supersede both sides with them able to reclaim their former positions in their clashes on Sunday. Losing to Aston Villa at home tonight would see Manuel Pellegrini`s side come to within four points off falling out of the top four all together.

Their opponents also have a lot on their plate beyond their cup final. Tim Sherwood`s side are just four points above Leicester in the final relegation place and could end the day just one point clear should they lose to the reigning Premier League champions and Leicester get the better of Burnley. Recording a surprise away victory could send Villa seven points clear of the drop zone, the team usurping Newcastle in the process.

The two sides have met just once this season, this being back in October in the reverse Premier League fixture at Villa Park. The visiting City ran out the 2-0 winners on this occasion, both goals coming in the final 10 minutes of the encounter.

It was Yaya Toure who finally put the Manchester club in front after 80 minutes of stalemate. With Villa despondent, Sergio Aguero hit City`s second in the dying embers of the tie. The Claret and Blue hosts were under the premiership of former manager Paul Lambert for this match, he being sacked later in the season and replaced by former Tottenham boss Sherwood.

Betvictor have the best price on Manchester City winning by two goals to nil once again, this price being 7/1. Otherwise it`s 23/20 (sportingbet) on the hosts winning by any number of goals to nil and 3/1 (Numerous) on Pellegrini`s side beating their opponents by a margin of two goals. The trio of 32red, 888sport and unibet have 15/2 on Toure breaking the deadlock for the second time against Villa.

Indeed it is City who are the favourite to take all three points from the clash by any means. The Champions League hopefuls can be backed at the best price of 3/10 to earn themselves victory over the struggling side. This price can be picked up at a number of bookmakers. Alternatively, Sherwood`s West Midlands side are up for grabs at 12/1 at william hill with the trio of betfair, betfred and Totesport offering 11/2 on a draw.

City`s 2-0 victory over West Ham United last time out ended a run of two back-to-back defeats. At home, the Etihad Stadium outfit are unbeaten in four and have not conceded a goal in 360 minutes. The fourth placed side scored 12 goals in this series of winning results and can be backed at 21/20 (boylesports, Coral, william hill) to hit over 2.5 goals against Villa.

With four of these 12 goals, David Silva was the club`s top scorer in this four game period and is available at the best price of 5/2 (betfred, Totesport) to add to his tally at any time.

Villa have picked up four points from their last two Premier League games and have won two of their last three matches on the road. Both these wins came without conceding a goal and whilst you can get 10/1 (bet365, Spreadex) on a Villa clean sheet, a third Villa win to nil in four games is available at 18/1 at a number of bookies.
