Fernando Alonso is the odds on favourite (10/11-general) after claiming victory in the Spanish Grand Prix. The Spaniard is now 34 points clear at the top of the standings after his win at Hockenheim, a result that made it two wins from the last three races for Alonso. With ten races to go Alonso will be hopeful that he can land his first World title since 2006 and his third in total.

Australian Mark Webber is second in the standings on 120 points and is a 10/1 (BWin/william hill) chance to winner the Drivers title. The Australian finished a hugely disappointing eighth in Germany and the terrible weekend was completed as his team Red Bull were reported by race stewards to FIA. Webber himself was at a loss to explain what went wrong his car this weekend after he could not produce the lap times in Qualifying, but is hopeful that he can bounce back in Hungary.

Third in the standings is Sebastian Vettel who is 54 points behind Alonso on 110. Vettel found himself demoted from his second place to fifth this weekend after an illegal manouevre when overtaking Jenson Button. He was given a 20 second penalty which meant he dropped eight points in the standings, something that could come back to haunt him at the end of the season. If you think the German can still make his comeback then you can get 5/2 (general).

Kimi Raikkonen is fourth in the standings on 98 points, some 56 behind Alonso. The Lotus driver finished third at the weekend with his fourth podium finish from the last seven races. The Finn is confident that his team can be competitive in the heat of Hungary next weekend and you can get a generous 5/2 (paddy Power) that he ends up finishing in the top three come the end of the season.

Jenson Button finished second at the weekend and it was his best performance for a while. Though the Drivers title seems beyond him he could be one to key an eye in the next few weeks. The Brit is 5/1 (paddy Power) for a top three finish, while team mate Lewis Hamilton is 11/10 (paddy power).

Paddy Power are offering a chance to bet on the ‘straight forecast’ market. This looks another way to get involved for those who don’t want to take on Alonso in the outright market. It is 9/4 the Alonso/Vettel 1-2 and the reverse Vettel/Alonso result is 7/2. Alonso/Hamilton and Alonso/Webber are priced at 17/2. Those who want to make the equation a little simpler might be interested in the ‘dual forecast’ market in which you just name the top two in any order. Alonso and Vettel are evens while Alonso and Webber are priced at 11/2.

The Constructors Championship is being lead by Red Bull (1/5-ladbrokes) who have a 53 point lead. Ferrari are second in the standings, but are third in the betting at 14/1 (william hill and You Win). Third placed McLaren are second in the betting at 8/1 (general) while Lotus Renault are 25/1 (william hill/You Win).

Next up on the schedule is the Hungarian Grand Prix this Sunday with bookmakers unable to decide between Fernando Alonso (3/1-general) and Sebastian Vettel (3/1-general). It is a race that has been dominanted by McLaren in recent years and Lewis Hamilton is 5/1 (Totesport/betfred/william hill) and Jenson Button is 10/1 (general). We will return later on in the week for a more extensive preview of the race.
