Ernie Els was the toast of the Golfing World on Sunday after claiming his fourth Major and his second Open Championship. Els played a great back nine to keep himself in contention and benefited from an Adam Scott collapse to lift the trophy. Bookmakers make the South African 33/1 (BetVictor/Bwin) to repeat his heroics of the weekend and land the Open Championship in 2013. The event will be held at Muirfield which was the scene of Els first Open win back in 2002.

Adam Scott is a 30/1 (bet365) chance to bounce back next year by winning the 2013 Open. The Australian suffered a late round collapse after leading for most of the 2012 tournament as he let a four-shot lead slip with four holes to play. Tiger Woods, who finished in a tie for third at Lytham, is the favourite for next year’s event at 9/1 (BetVictor/paddy Power). Englishman Luke Donald and Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy are second favourites at 16/1 with Lee Westwood 20/1 (Bwin). Graeme McDowell and Padraig Harrington are priced up at 28/1 (Bwin).

Attention now turns to the one Major still remaining this year, the US PGA Championship. The event gets underway August 9th from Kiawah Island Golf Resort which will be the first time in history that the South Carolina course has held the Championship. Bookmakers make Tiger Woods the 7/1 (bet365/Skybet/william hill) favourite for the event. Woods is a four-time winner of this tournament and played some great Golf during the Open. Next in the market comes the British charge with Lee Westwood a 16/1 (ladbrokes) shot for that elusive first major title, Luke Donald is also a 16/1 (general) chance, while Rory McIlroy is 20/1 (bet365). Though a word of caution, only two Europeans have ever won the PGA Championship event (Martin Kaymer in 2010 and Padraig Harrington in 2008) and just 12 non-Americans have won since the event began in 1958. Those looking for some home hope might fancy South Carolina native Dustin Johnson. Johnson finished tied ninth at the Open and could go well at 35/1 (bet365). Keegan Bradley is the defending champion after winning the 2011 PGA tournament in a play-off against Jason Dufner. Bradley is 66/1 (Skybet) to repeat his success while Dufner is 40/1 (Skybet) to go one better this year.

A number of Brits had a disappointing time at the Open this week, but still remain competitive in the Race to Dubai market which runs until Sunday 25th November. Justin Rose heads the points standings and is a 6/1 (Blue Sq/888 Sport/BWin) shot for the big money prize. South African Ernie Els is second after victory at the Open and is a 10/1 (Bet365/paddy Power/BWin) hope to finish on top. Lee Westwood and Rory McIlroy are also available at 6/1 while Luke Donald is 13/2 (paddy Power). The value bets on this market could be Francesco Molinari who is a 20/1 (Bet365) hope and Nicolas Colsaerts who is also 20/1 (general), both of whom are having good years on the tour and currently rank third (Molinari) and fifth (Colsaerts) in the standings. Both players are very consistent and this should work well for them in this kind of market.

The tour events will resume this week with the Lyoness Open in Austria, while on the PGA tour the RBC Canada Open will take place. We will have full previews of both events here later in the week.
