GOLF WEEKLY PREVIEW After the excitement of the Open it is back to the tour events this week with the RBC Canadian Open taking place on the US PGA Tour, while on the European Tour the Lyoness Open is taking place from Austria.

The Hamilton Golf and Country Club in Ontario is the venue for the Canadian Open this year. The event was last held there in 2006 when it was won by Jim Furyk. The American is the 18/1 (general) third favourite. Furyk made the cut at the Open last week, but never really featured in the mix. ’The Businessman’ (as he is known to his fans) has obvious course form and is having a reasonable year on the Tour with four top ten finishes and is one you can depend on to do the business. The Favourite for the tournament is Matt Kuchar who is 12/1 (general) to land his second PGA title of the year. Kuchar is probably a deserved favourite with two top ten finishes from his last two starts and seven top ten finishes this year. Kuchar looks likely to be in the mix come the final round on Sunday.

Hunter Mahan is the 14/1 (general) second favourite for the title. Mahan was tied 19th at the Open Championship which gave him his third top twenty finish in a row. The American is an ultra consistent player who has just missed one cut all season and will give his backers a run for their money. Fourth favourite for the tournament is the 2012 Open champion Ernie Els. The South African will be full of confidence after his success at Lytham. While he must always be respected he is probably worth swerving at 28/1 (general) after the tough week he has just had. Another who featured prominently in the Open was Brandt Snedeker who finished tied third. Snedeker was the leader after 36 holes of the Open but could not hold on, a common problem with Snedeker on the tour. If you fancy him to make ammends here you can get him at 30/1 (general).

2011 champion Sean O’Hair is a 33/1 (general) chance. O’Hair won this event in 2011 and was third the last time the tournament was held at this venue back in 2006. O’Hair did not feature in the Open, but in his penultimate event at the Greenbrier Classic finished tied for seventh. O’Hair might go well at each-way prices here on a course in a country he has a good record at. Bo Van Pelt is a 33/1 (general) chance and will hope to put a disappointing Open behind him. Second on his penultimate start in the AT&T National and tied 20th here in 2006, Van Pelt offers some appeal at a decent price.

Those looking for a home Canadian win, their first of this event since 1954 when Pat Flether won this, will be struggling to find a player to back. Stephen Ames (250/1-paddy Power) and Mike Weir (400/1-Stan James) are among the 17 Canadians in action.

Also this week is the Senior Open Championship with Tom Lehman the 9/1(general) favourite. The event is being held at Turnberry a place where Tom Watson has won both the Open Championship and the Senior Championship and he must represent some value at 20/1 (general).

Over in Europé the Lyoness Austrian Open gets underway Wednesday this week. The market is headed by Dane Thorbjorn Olesen (14/1-general) who had a great Open Championship and will certainly be in the mix in an event that is missing some of the top players on the Tour.
