Last week we previewed the NBA outrights, let us now take a look at some of the special markets available as the season heads towards the start.

LeBron James is the 7/4 favourite (BWin/william hill/You Win) to be named the MVP of the 2012/13 NBA season ahead of Kevin Durant who is 13/4 (BWin). I think the title race in the NBA will come down to three teams and the MVP race down to just two players. The LA Lakers (although Kobe will still be top dog) will have nights in which Dwight Howard shines, other nights it will be Nash, other nights Bryant, other times Gasol. Of the two then I think it might be worth a little interest on Durant to be named MVP. The Thunder player has scored between 27 and 30 in each of the last three seasons. In addition he is such a likeable character on and off the court. LeBron has won this trophy in three of the last four years now though might be the time for someone else to have a go and that someone else is Durant.

The NBA Rookie of the Year award favourite is Anthony Davis at 15/8 (Stan James). Let me get one thing straight Davis is the best rookie no doubt and the Hornets have a real talent on their hands here. I think though it might pay to side with Damian Lillard at 6/1 (Willian Hill). Lillard was the sixth pick in the NBA Draft though he has the luxury of going straight into a side which features All Star LaMarcus Aldridge and Nicolas Batum. Lillard just needs to provide the passes to a dominant force on the wing and the strong shooting Batum. Eric Gordon is likely to be the leader on the offensive end for the Hornets and it is hard to win this award by playing strong defence. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is another who will get a chance to showcase his talent on a very weak Bobcats team, however this is a very weak Bobcats team who might not get many dates on TV.

Finally a number of bookmakers are priced up on how many regular season games each team will win. I like the look of Denver to win over 49.5 games this season. No side goes two deep like Denver do and this can serve them really well in the regular season. The addition of Andre Igudola, the development of Kenneth Faried and a whole training camp for Wilson Chandler should see the Nuggets better than last season. Another team I think can win more games than the bookmakers suggest is the Indiana Pacers. The Pacers won .636 of games last season yet 888 Sport and Blue Square are offering 3/4 that Indiana win over 47.5. To win 48 games would see the Pacers have a lower win percentage than last season. This Indiana side are not going to get worse in fact with the Chicago Bulls rocked by injury some of their divisional games might become a little easier to win.

Speaking of the Bulls look for them to win under 46.5 games at 11/13 (BWin). Chicago will be without influential leader Derrick Rose and it is not clear he is coming back soon. If by January it looks like he might not return then the Bulls might pull the plug on their season.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Over wins for Pacers/Nuggets, Under wins for Bulls
SILVER: Damian Lillard to win Rookie of the Year,
BRONZE: Kevin Durant to win MVP 13/4 (BWin)
