With World Cup qualifcation to take a back seat for a while here is a look at how the betting markets are shaking up.

Four games into European Qualifying and Group A has already emerged as a clear two horse race between Belgium and Croatia. It is 5/6 (Skybet/paddy Power) that Belgium win the group ahead of Croatia who are 13/10 (BWin). These two meet on June 6th in Belgium in what looks like being the crucial decider.

In Group B Italy are leading the way with ten points from four games and are 1/5 (general) for victory. It looks like a battle for second place with the Czech Republic 4/6 (BetVictor) to finish in the top two, Denmark is 2/1 (BetVictor) while Bulgaria are 9/2 (BetVictor/BWin).

Despite letting a four goal lead slip to draw 4-4 with Sweden Germany still look good things for Group C as they have ten points while Sweden have seven, the Republic of Ireland have six and Austria four. It is 2/5 (BetVictor) that Sweden make the top two, though the Republic of Ireland at 2/1 (BWin) and Austria at 14/1 (BetVictor) will still have hope.

Four games four wins the Netherlands or Holland or the Dutch or the Oranje, whatever you wish to call them, are flying in Group D. The battle looks like between Hungary and Romania to finish second with both on nine points. It is 11/10 (BWin) Romania finish in the top two and 9/4 (BetVictor) Hungary. Turkey have just three points yet bookmakers have not given up on them and make them 4/1 (BWin) to finish in the top two.

Switzerland are ahead in Group E with ten points and are 8/11 (paddy Power) to top the group. Norway are next with seven points and are 13/8 (Stan James). Iceland (40/1-BWin/188Bet) and Albania (80/1-general) are on six points while even Slovenia and Cyprus on three points will not have discounted their hopes.

It is advantage Russia in Group F with four wins from four games and they are 11/17 (BWin) to finish top of the group which bearing in mind their five point advantage still seems very generous. Second looks like being a battle between Israel and Northern Ireland with Portugal 1/20 (BetVictor) and Israel 5/1 (BetVictor/BWin).

Bosnia and Greece are both on ten points from games and it seems clear that Group G will be between these two sides. It is 11/8 (general) for both sides to win the group as bookmakers can not seem to split them.

Group H is currently headed by England but all the teams other than San Marino must still have a chance to occupy one of the top two spots. It is 1/2(BWin) that England win the group. Those battling for second are Montenegro (11/8-BetVictor), Poland are 13/8 (BetVictor) and Ukraine are 14/5 (BWin). Poland impressed against England and I think look good things at 13/8 to finish in the top two.

In Group I it looks a straight battle between Spain and France both of whom have started with seven points from three games. It is 2/5 (general) that Spain come out on top of the group and 2/1 (general) that France do.

The outright market for World Cup 2014 is headed by hosts Brazil at 7/2 (general). Despite home advantage I can not be backing them at this price and would rather be on the Europeans like Spain (11/2-general), Germany (8/1-general) and Italy (25/1-BetVictor). Those looking for South American interest could do worse than Colombia 50/1 OR (You Win) or 40/1 EW (paddy Power). In Falcao they possess one of the best strikers in the world and are third in qualifying in South America winning four of their last five.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Poland 13/8 (BetVictor) to finish in the top two in Group H
SILVER: Russia 11/17 (BWin) to win Group F
BRONZE: Colombia, EW to win the World Cup, 40/1 (paddy power)
