Newcastle looking for second league win at Spurs

Despite a recent turn around in fortunes, gaining four points from their last two games, Newcastle United find themselves in the relegation zone with manager Alan Pardew still under pressure. They travel to face a Tottenham Hotspur side who have also been inconsistent this season, a good point at Arsenal recently followed a 1-0 home defeat to West Bromwich Albion and their latest result was a 4-1 defeat at Manchester City.

Having said that, Maurico Pochettino will have been delighted with the 1-0 home win against his old club Southampton and the performance away at Manchester City was good, creating some excellent chances in the first half and were still in the game at 2-1 down when Federico Fazio was sent off for a foul on man of the match Sergio Aguero.

A good win in the Europa League on Thursday and the overall performance against Manchester City will send Spurs into this game with confidence and they are 3/4 favourites with SkyBet to take all three points from this game. If they are to do this, a lot will rest on the shoulders of creative midfielder Christian Eriksen, who has started to fulfil the promise that he first showed when joining the club. Eriksen is available at 5/2 with bet365 to score at any time during the match and has netted in his previous two Premier League outings. With striker Roberto Soldado still struggling for form, it may provide a chance for Emmanuel Adebayor to enter the starting line up and the Togolese is 9/2 with ladbrokes to get the first goal of the game.

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew will be hoping that Papiss Cisse can continue his goal scoring form, having got both goals in each of the 2-2 draws against Hull City and more recently away at Swansea City. The Senegal striker is 8/1 with paddypower to open the scoring and 11/4 with ladbrokes to score at any time.

Newcastle will also be hoping that Tottenham`s struggles after playing European games continues into this one, having lost both of their home matches that have followed a Europa League game on the Thursday before. If this trend is to continue then Newcastle will need to improve defensively, having conceded 15 goals in 8 matches so far this season and if an away win does materialise it`s likely to be without a clean sheet, therefore Newcastle to win with both teams to score at 7/1 would be the best bet here.

However, it`s difficult to look beyond a home win in this one and if there is one player who really does deserve a chance to show what he can do in the Premier League, it`s Harry Kane, the hat-trick hero from the mid-week Europa League victory. There is little to separate the three main Spurs strikers in the goal scoring odds for this match and paddypower offer 2/1 for Spurs to win the match and Kane to get on the score-sheet.

In their two Premier League home wins to date, Spurs have managed to keep a clean sheet, beating QPR 4-0 and Southampton 1-0 and you can get 9/4 with Coral for Spurs to win this match without conceding a goal.
