Sunderland look to give their fans something to cheer as they set about trying to record their first win of the season today (27th September) at home to high-flying Swansea City. Gus Poyet`s men sit just outside of the relegation zone after the opening five games of the Premier League season. The Black Cats have accumulated four points from their initial encounters with promising home draws against Manchester United and Tottenham somewhat undermined by finding themselves unable to defeat a trio of also-rans including Burnley (0-0), West Brom (2-2) and QPR, against whom they lost by a goal to nil. Garry Monk`s August of wins saw him pick up the Premier League`s Manager of the Month award, though he might feel as though he`s been jinxed as the Swans have fallen two defeats in two September league games. Though fans of the Welsh side will have been buoyed by their team`s 3-0 dispatching of Everton in the Capital One Cup during the week. Goals from Nathan Dyer, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Marvin Emnes saw Swansea reach the fourth round of the tournament for the first time since they lifted the trophy back in 2012/13. The Liberty Stadium faithful will hope that their side take this form into the league, starting by recording a victory in the North East.

Things look good for the Whites in this regard, Swansea having done the double over Sunderland in emphatic style last season with two own goals from Black Cats defenders helping the Swans to a 4-0 home win before they grabbed a 3-1 victory at the Stadium of Light on the last day of the campaign. As a result of this, Monk`s men are 17/10 (Betvictor, ladbrokes, paddy Power, william hill) to bag another result against Sunderland. The home side have only beaten today`s visitors once in their last six meetings. They are 2/1 (Betvictor) to make it two in seven. A draw can be backed at 23/10 with a number of bookmakers.

Poyet will call upon the services of Will Buckley and Billy Jones after impressing in their Capital One Cup defeat against Stoke City. Both players played the full 90 minutes as the Potters came from 1-0 down to nick the game thanks to a double from Marc Muniesa. It will be Buckley`s first start since the 1-1 against Manchester United a month ago. The 24-year-old followed his boss from Brighton and Hove Albion in 2014. Jones is set to make his first appearance for the club since signing from West Bromwich Albion in the pre-season.

Italian winger Emanuele Giacherrini is undergoing an assessment after missing the Stoke clash with a ankle injury picked up when defending a strike in the side`s 0-0 draw away at Burnley. Information coming from the sunderland camp is that he should be available for selection. Connor Wickham is too hoping to return after also missing the cup game. The young striker would provide his manager with another much-needed attacking option should he have recovered from his back injury. Goalless striker Steven Fletcher could also be recalled.

After overcoming a calf strain, centre-back Wes Brown could be a like-for-like replacement for Liverpool loan signing Sebastian Coates who had his debut in the mid-week cut short when he received a knock.

Brown will likely have to contend with Swansea`s Wilfried Bony who is back after serving a one match ban, having seen red against Southampton. The Ivorian is 21/10 with Betvictor to bag his first Premier League goal of the campaign. The Welsh club`s only injury concern is long-term absentee Jordi Amat with Argentinean Federico Fernandez once again providing cover.
