Jason Dufner, Luke Donald and Brandt Snedeker are the three off the tee worth backing in the Deutsche Bank Championship, the second PGA Tour event in this year`s FedExCup Playoffs.

TPC Boston, venue for the Deutsche Bank Championship since its inception in 2003, is one of the easiest courses on the PGA Tour and one of the least difficult layouts that the top golfers will encounter at the business end of the season.

The nine Deutsche Bank Championship tournaments have been won with average scores better than 17 under par and the course record stands at 10-under-the-card 61, set by Vijay Singh in 2006 and equalled by Mike Weir two years later.

In-form golfers with superb results on the TPC Boston layout are the ones on which to focus, particularly those that rank highly for greens in regulation and birdie average. That is why Dufner is the first selection at odds of around 22-1.

Dufner, fresh as a daisy after having last week off, ticks every Deutsche Bank Championship box. First, he is in great form having registered six top-10 finishes in nine starts since winning the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in April. Second, he was joint second in the 2009 edition of the TPC Boston-hosted event. Third, he ranks fourth for greens in regulation on the PGA Tour this year. And finally, he ranks third for birdie average on the PGA Tour in 2012 as well.

Former world number one Donald is the second golfer for the Deutsche Bank Championship punting portfolio at around 18-1. He tied for second behind easy 2010 winner Charley Hoffman and was joint third behind 2011 champion Webb Simpson. In his last two Deutsche Bank Championship appearances, his aggregate score is 30 under par and he arrives in Boston having posted his seventh PGA Tour top 10 this year.

Snedeker gets the third and final nod at around 28-1. He was the only golfer to go under par in each of the four rounds of The Barclays, shooting 70-69-68-70 to beat home everyone except Nick Watney, who took three fewer strokes. He ranks sixth in birdie average on the PGA Tour in 2012 and, also, he has two top-five finishes in the Deutsche Bank Championship to his credit in the last two years.

Watney is unlikely to win back-to-back tournaments in the FedExCup Playoffs. He may be in excellent form but he has not cracked the top 30 at TPC Boston in eight attempts.

Once again, the European Tour plays second fiddle to the PGA Tour, with the European Masters headlined by Peter Hanson at around 16-1. The Swede is swerved at those odds, though.

The European Masters will not take much winning and, at the prices, 25-1 chance Alexander Noren makes the most appeal. He won the Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club-staged tournament in 2009 and recorded back-to-back European Tour top 10s before travelling to the Unites States of America and tying for 66th place in the PGA Championship at Kiawah Island.

Europe`s Ryder Cup captain, Jose Maria Olazabal, has named his team for this year`s match. Bookmakers favour the United States of America at around 5-6, with Europe at around 6-4 and the tie at around 11-1. Europe will defend the Ryder Cup at the Medinah Country Club in Chicago late next month.
