Following the shock exit of number one seed Serena Williams the title race is wide open with BET65 quoting six player at 10/1 or under showing that anybody could lift this trophy.

The market leader is Maria Sharapova at 2/1 with the Russian no doubt delighted that a potential last eight clash with Williams is no more. Sharapova has had few problems so far just dropping seven sets in three games while having plenty of time to advertise her off court candy business. The Russian though will face tougher challenges in the second week starting with Angelique Kerber in the last 16. The German is a former semi-finalist here (2012).

The winner of that clash faces a difficult last eight clash with either Alize Cornet or Eugenie Bouchard. Cornet saw off Serena in the last round and is 2/1 to book her place in the quarter-finals. Her opponent is playing excellent Tennis this year having made the semi-finals in both France and Australia and has not dropped a set here this year. You can get 2/1 that Bouchard wins her quarter and 8/1 that she lifts the trophy.

Simona Halep is also in this section of the draw and the likely semi-final opponent for Bouchard or Sharapova. The Romanian has had an excellent year making the final in the French and the last eight in Australia. Halep has looked decent so far dropping just one set and she will fancy her chances against Zarina Diyas in round four. Diyas give notice of her talent when reaching the final at Nottingham and is a dangerous opponent.

The fourth section is wide open with Ana Ivanovic the highest remaining seed though she is currently one set down to Sabine Lisicki in their third round battle. Also still in third round action are Yaroslav Shvedova and Madison Keys with the former one set ahead. The winners of these two matches will do battle in the last 16.

The first section to me is one to avoid with a number of players who are on their day capable of victory but also of putting in poor performances. As a Tennis fan it looks like a half for cracking battles but not one to put any money on.

The bottom section of the draw offers more betting appeal following the third round exit of the second seed Na Li (or Li Na if you prefer) along side Azarenka, Cibulkova and Errani means this section is open for someone to come through. The bookmakers fancy that Agnieszka Radwanska will do well and you can see why as the Pole was a finalist before and has dropped just nine games in the tournament so far. Her last 16 opponent is Ekaterina Makarova who won the last 16 battle between these two in the US Open last year. If the Pole emerges victorious then she faces the winner of the battle between Lucie Safarova and Tereza Smitkova. Safarova has won four of the five meetings against the Pole and seems value here to win the quarter at odds of 3/1.

Petra Kvitova is the likely semi-final opponent for either Radwanska or Safarova and she is the 4/1 second favourite with bet365. The 2011 champion has a 4-0 record against her last 16 opponent Shaui Peng. Her quarter-final opponent is either Caroline Wozniacki or Barbora Zahlavova-Strycova who defeat Li Na in the previous round. The Czech player should have few problems coming through and booking her place in the last four. I could not put anyone off backing at her 4/1 each-way though I might take her on with Safarova who pushed her to three sets at Eastbourne recently (a game that was only decided by a tiebreak) and is a much bigger price of 40/1.

RECOMMENDATION: Lucie Safarova E/W Wimbledon, 40/1 (bet365)
Lucie Safarova to win her quarter, 3/1 (bet365)
