Pre-season friendly preview and odds: PSG vs Leicester City

July 31, 2016 05:05am - Stubhub Center, Carson, California

International Champions Cup

Jamie Vardy could make his first pre-season appearance for Leicester City following his return to training, when the Premier League champions take on the French Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain in the International Champions cup in California on Sunday.

English and French champions go head-to-head

After bagging 24 goals for Leicester City last season, Jamie Vardy was linked with a move away from the East Midlands club. However, the England star penned a new contract and is now back in training following his post-Euro 2016 recovery process. With the start of the Premier League just two weeks away, boss Claudio Ranieri will be keen to get his goal-getter firing on all cylinders as the Foxes look to defend their Premier League crown.

With that in mind, striker could be set to make his first appearance of pre-season when his side faces French giants Paris Saint-Germain at the StubHub Center in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Vardy surprised many people in the football world when he turned down a move to Arsenal earlier in the summer, instead preferring to remain at the club that he helped lead to glory last year. As well as defending their Premier League crown, Ranieri`s men will also be preparing for Champions League football and the upcoming clashes against PSG and Barcelona will help with that.

Meanwhile, one of Leicester`s other star players from last season, Riyad Mahrez, has also been linked with a move away from the club - however, he is currently engaged in contract talks with a view to remaining at the King Power Stadium.

Their opponents are coming into this game in great shape having already impressed under new boss Unai Emery. Following pre-season wins against West Bromwich Albion, Inter and Real Madrid, the reigning Ligue 1 champions already look like a force to be reckoned with and will be looking to challenge for the Champions League title - the one area where they have fallen short in recent years.

The 3-1 defeat of last year`s Champions League winners will have given Emery`s men a massive boost despite the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale from the Madrid starting line-up. The French side can be expected to play a more expansive style this season under the guidance of the Spaniard and new Director of Football Patrick Kluivert.

Team news

PSG could be without Brazilian defender Thiago Silva, who was injured in the clash with Madrid.

Meanwhile, Matt James (illness) is expected to miss out for the Foxes.

Betting odds and tips

Leicester are mixing it with the big boys this summer and it will be interesting to see how they fare against one of the form teams of the pre-season roster. Unai Emery appears to have taken no time to impose his methods upon his new team and PSG currently look in very good shape. A draw is probably the best result that Claudio Ranieri’s men can hope for.
