Sunday August 30, 4:00pm - Liberty Stadium

With both teams unbeaten heading into the fourth round of Premier League matches this weekend, Sunday’s clash between Swansea and Manchester United at the Liberty stadium looks set to be an intriguing encounter.

Under the radar

While much of the media attention has been focused on the performances of the Manchester side - and Wayne Rooney in particular - the team from Wales has been quietly going about their business under the radar.

Garry Monks men dealt well with a tough opening trio of games that consisted of trips to Chelsea and Sunderland and a home meeting with Newcastle. Having drawn both away games and won the home match, they currently sit in sixth place on seven points. However, despite their good start, they have yet to win two consecutive home games in the Premier League during 2015.

Gomis - the man in form

In their three games so far, the Swans have scored a total five goals, all of which have come from the strike duo of Bafetimbi Gomis and Andre Ayew. Of those five, Gomis netted three, making it eight goals in the last nine league games for the 30-year-old. A goal on Sunday would make in four in four for the former Lyon man in the current campaign.

If you are looking for some betting value, the Frenchman can be backed at a decent price of 13/2 with bet365 to score the first goal on Sunday. You can also get 11/5 with the same bookie if you want to play safe and stick to the Anytime Goal Scorer market.

Herrera may start

On the opposite side, there have been calls from the local media and fans in Manchester to give a starting berth to Ander Herrera after his impressive performance in the Red Devils Champions League qualifier win over Brugges in midweek. The Spaniard was one of United best performers last season and could be a worth an outside punt at 20/1 to bag the man-of-the-match award in this game. Rooney offers little value

A Wayne Rooney hat-trick in the game in Belgium helped to stem the flow of criticism that has been aimed at the striker during the opening three games. However, having failed to find the net in his last nine Premier League outings, Rooney may need to register a strike in a league game before his return to form can be officially declared.

Despite his league drought, the former Everton front man is still the favourite in all the goal scoring markets, so there is little value to be had if you do fancy backing him.

Recent form

The respective home and away form of each team is very similar with both teams having won three, drawn one and lost two. United have not conceded a goal all season but have only found the net twice. Swansea did manage to beat Louis van Gaal’s men in both league meetings last season, but they are still looking for their first back-to-back home wins in nine months.

Prediction

Everything about the game points to a draw and bet365 are offering a best price of 12/5 at the time of writing. Alternatively, back Bafetimbi Gomis in the First or Anytime Goal Score markets.
