Due largely to a ferocious rivalry between supporters, Millwall vs. Leeds United fixtures tend to serve up some real humdingers and a ferocious encounter is anticipated once more when the two sides meet at the New Den on Saturday March 24.

A lot will be at stake for both teams with Millwall looking to put breathing space between themselves and the Npower Championship relegation zone whilst Leeds will be seeking to make up for lost ground in the race for the play-off places.

Kenny Jackett has endured a frustrating campaign as Lions boss with his side unable to build on what was a promising return to the second tier last season.

Currently holding a six point cushion over the drop zone in 19th, many Millwall supporters may feel that their club is safe enough - however nothing can be taken for granted especially considering that the Londoners have only won two matches from their last six and have lost consecutive games to Nottingham Forest and Southampton.

Their latest effort against the league leaders was, nevertheless, a major improvement on their recent form and Millwall were arguably unlucky to lose having conceded two controversial penalties late in the day after dominating for long spells.

Getting one over on Leeds will be inspiration enough for Millwall but they will face a difficult task with the Whites now looking like a different side altogether under the guidance of Neil Warnock.

United have comfortably held their position in the top half of the table all season long however they slowly drifted out of promotion contention until Warnock took over the reins.

Flimsy and unreliable under the sacked Simon Grayson, Leeds are now a transformed outfit who battle for every ball and consistently press opposition high up the pitch. Their new found effort, energy and intensity is very much reminiscent of the great Leeds eleven of old – and whilst the quality is obviously lacking in comparison to their predecessors, Leeds have nonetheless shown that they are more than equal to any other team in the division.

Victory will have to be secured at home to Forest if Leeds are to go into this game still harbouring play-off ambitions and their chances of snatching three points from the Lion’s Den will greatly depend on how they fair midweek at Elland Road.

Should they still be well in contention, the 13/8 about a Whites success can land a decent blow against the bookmakers - and the result will surely be in no doubt if the Yorkshire men can reproduce the same kind of performance as when last on the road at Middlesbrough.

In truth, Millwall probably have a little too much in the locker to be relegated however they may find the visitors too good on this occasion.

The hosts will have to press on if they are to get over their Southampton disappointment and can undoubtedly cause Leeds problems if able to attack as fluently as they did against Nigel Adkins side.

But providing they still have all to play for, Leeds may be up for this contest just that little bit more – and it is hard to ignore the way they struck and then impressively killed the game off at the Riverside during their last away assignment.
