Coordination Training Exercises

360 degree spin Stand on a line, and  jump up and spin so that you land in the same spot, facing the same way,  balanced.

Arms straight out, kicking hands Put your arms straight out in front , and walk forward. With each step,  kick one of your, keeping his knees straight. Builds flexibility and balance.

Back-to-back wrestling   Each player starts sitting on the mat, their hands and knees on the mat, with their backs touching each others'. On the referee's command 'Hajime", the students attempt to pin each other; neither player may stand. One knee must be on the mat at all times. A pin of fifteen seconds wins the match.

Buttock kick Put your hands on the mat, and spring up so that your feet are in the air, and kick yourself in the rear. Builds flexibility and balance.

Catwalk Bend over at the waist and puts both hands on the ground, keeping his knees straight. 'Walk' forward with hands until your in a push-up position, then walk your feet forward until your arms and legs are parallel.
The repeat.

Cockfighting Each student bends one of his legs at the knee, so that the foot is behind the other knee, and reaches down with his cross hand and grabs the foot of the bent leg (e.g., a right legged student will typically use his right hand to hold his left foot). A student is considered out of the game whenever he falls, whenever he lets go of his foot, or whenever he is forced out of the designated playing area.

Crab walk Puts both feet and both hands on the ground, with stomach facing upwards;  lift yourself up in a back bend, and walk.

Crawl understick A stick is placed horizontally over the mat; the students crawl under it.

Duck walk Squat down, heels to buttocks, fold arms, and walk in this position.

Duck jump Squat down, heels to buttocks, fold arms, and spring forward, landing in this position.

Flat-footed duck jump Squats down, as far as you can while keeping your heels on the mat, folds your arms, and spring forward, landing in this position.

Flat-footed duck walk Squats down, as far as you can while keeping your heels on the mat, folds your arms, and walk in this position.

Frog dance The student raises himself into a frog stand (below), and walks on his hands without failing over.

Frog stand Squat down, heels to buttocks, with his hands on the floor and his elbows touching the inside of his knees. He leans forward until he is balanced on his hands, with his knees supported on his elbows.

Grasshopper jump Squat down, and hold  hands out to the sides. Spring up and forward; at the top of the arc,  kick your hands with both legs.

Heel click Squat down, fold arms, and spring up; while in the air,  click heels together.

Hook fingers behind back Attempt to hook  index fingers behind back, with one arm coming over one shoulder, and the other arm coming up from his kidneys.

Hook foot behind head Attempt to place heel over shoulder and behind  neck.

Jackknife exercise   Lie down on the mat,  arms over  head. Do a situp, with his legs and arms straight, and touches toes in midair, then back.

Jump over belt Fold belt and hold it between hands then (while holding the belt) jump over it in the manner of a jumprope. The winner being the person who manages to jump over the shortest length of belt.

Jump over toe and foot Grab left big toe in right hand. Then (while holding toe) jump over it with his other leg; if this is easy,  jump back or change sides.

Knee climb on elbows Squat down, heels to buttocks, with hands on the ground and his elbows touching the inside of his knees. Lean forward until balanced on hands, with knees supported by elbows, and topple forward so that your head touches the mat.

Kneewalk  Kneel down, and grab feet, one in each hand, then walk forward.

Knee-to-standing jump Kneel and attempt to jump up to a standing position.

Lame dog walk Stand on one foot, and put both hands on the mat. Keep other foot from touching the ground, while walking forward.

Leg wrestling Each player starts lying on  back beside the other player, with their heads pointing in opposite directions and their right hands clasped. The referee counts slowly to three; on each count, the players raise their right legs so that they are opposite each other, and then put them back down on the mat. On the third count, the players attempt to hook legs and pull the other player over onto his stomach. The first player whose foot is pulled down to the mat over his head is the loser.

Machine gun wiggle Lie on back, and push forward with feet without letting knees rise above the level of his hips.

Mule kick Puts hands on the mat, and springs up so that feet are in the air, and kick straight backward.

Novelty walk Walk forward by stepping around behind standing leg with each step.

Push-up wrestling   Each student starts in a push-up position; on the referee's command 'Hajime', they try to force the other player to lose. A player loses when any parts of his body but his hands and feet touch the mat, or his hips rise above his shoulders.

Ram Sumo wrestling Each student starts an equal distance from the center of the circular playing area, folds his arms, and attempts to move the other student out of the playing area wthout using his hands.

Russian dance Squat down, fold arms, and sticks one leg straight out in front. Spring up, and change legs so that the other leg is straight out. Repeat

Seal walk Lie down on stomach, and lift shoulders while keeping hips in contact with the mat. 'Walk forward on hands, keeping hips on the mat, and legs dragging behind.

Sumo wrestling   Each student starts an equal distance from the center of the circular playing area, and attempts to move the other student out of the playing area.  A player is defeated when one foot leaves the area. In addition, a player is defeated if he is lifted completely off the mat.

Tailorsquat  Squats down while keeping heels on mat. Arms may be held in front of  for balance.

Wheelbarrow race A contest bttween two or more pairs of students. One member of each pair sets himself in a push-up position, and the other picks him up by the legs. The pairs race around a set course;  Holding the
thighs is much faster than the lower legs.

Walk on toes Walks on tiptoes, but with toes curled under so that toenails contact the mat. Do not force this exersize, as a person with weak toes may break them accidentally.
