One recipe for success in designing software for online casinos is to take two traditional games and somehow combine them to create something totally new. That was the concept that led to the development of “4 Play HiLo Bingo” or “Four Play,” a risqué-sounding marriage of arcade-style Hi-Lo and 16-ball Bingo that can be found in major gaming web sites like Bet365.

Four Play consists of four independent slot-type reels lined up across the lower half of the screen, plus a Bingo card-type 4 x 4 matrix of numbers at the top. The symbols on the reels are Bingo balls numbered 1~16 that correspond to the 16 sequential positions on the matrix. A yellow “Shuffle” button below the matrix allows the player to mix up the balls that appear on the reels before starting the game to obtain an advantageous starting number on one or more reels.

To begin a game of Four Play, first choose a Stake. This can be accomplished by using the green up/down arrows above and below the “Stake” indicator in the upper right corner of the display. Available amounts are of €1, €2, €3, €4, €5, €10, €20 and €25. Messages appearing above the Stake indicator tell the player to “Select your stake, shuffle your numbers as required. Once happy with your numbers, select ‘PLAY’ to begin.”

Next, click on the green “Play” button below the Stake indicator. The game display will brighten and the Hi-Lo buttons for each reel will become active. Payout indicators above and below each reel show the amount to be gained by betting Hi or Lo on that reel. Select just one reel on which to wager and click either Hi or Lo and reels will spin before coming to rest on new numbers. If the player’s choice is incorrect, the words “Game Over” will flash upon the screen, the Stake will be lost and the display will dim, returning to its original state.

However, if the selection is correct, whatever Bingo number appeared on the reel at the start of play will be covered on the matrix and the corresponding payout will be added to the “Cashpot” counter that appears in the upper right part of the screen. The player may then choose a new number to bet on, Hi or Lo, and the game continues in this fashion until the player is incorrect or a Row or Column is completed on the Bingo Card.

Upon completing a line of four on the matrix, the player has three options. Clicking on the “Collect” button to the right of the matrix will end the game and add the entire Cashpot to the player’s Balance of funds at the top right corner of the screen. Clicking on “Bank Half” below the Cashpot counter will set half of the Cashpot aside as a guaranteed win and leave the remainder as the Stake to continue wagering. Alternatively the player may choose to simply wager on with the entire Cashpot at risk, in which case the payouts and bonuses to be won will be of greater value.

As the Message display reads throughout play, “Complete a row or column to receive a 10% bonus. Complete entire grid to receive 25% super bonus.” Bonuses are paid and added to the Cashpot whenever a row or column is completed. “Bank Half” tokens are issued at the same time and they may be collected up to six in total for play at any time. The player may also collect winnings at any time if one or more lines of the matrix have been filled. Note that diagonals and corners do not count toward bonuses.
