Created by software developer Electracade for distribution to online casinos through OpenBet Technologies, the “Banzai” slot game features a 5-reel, 15-payline format, with winning combinations that pay in an consecutive sequence, from left to right, right to left, or even on the middle three reels.

The game is based upon the British television programme of the same name, which aired between 2001 and 2003 as a parody of Japanese game shows. Some recurring characters on the show were Master of Ceremonies “Mr. Banzai,” played by opera singer Masashi Fujimoto, Mr. Shake-Hands Man, Mr. Shake-Hands Man 2, Lady One Question and Mr. Cheeky Chappy, to name a few.

The Banzai slot offers video clips of the show’s wacky characters along with meaningless Japanese-looking symbols and various audio effects, including drum rolls, laughter, admonitions, taunts and off-the-wall comments. The game begins by selecting the amount to wager per line by using the up/down arrows next to the “Bet/Line” indicator below the first reel. The available amounts range from €0.01 to €25.00.

Next, select the number of line to play by using the up/down arrows next to the “Lines” counter below the first reel. It is also possible to choose the number of line desired by clicking on one of the payline indicators that flank the reels. The total amount of the “Stake” per spin appears under the second reel, up to a maximum of €375.

Once the betting is right, clicking on the blue “Spin” button under reel number three will set the reels in motion. Alternatively, the purple “Auto Spin” button below the fifth reel can be used to select 5, 10 or 25 automated spins at the same Stake. When the reels come to a halt, any winning combinations are highlighted with coloured lines, the symbols animate and the winnings are displayed in the ‘”Total Paid” counter below the fourth reel.

The basic reel symbols are the standard playing cards—Jacks through Aces—with video characters assigned to each one. Matching three or more consecutive symbols on an active payline in any direction pays from 1X to 125X. High awards are paid for catching three or more symbols for Betting Ends, Banzai Logo, Lightening Bolt, Yin-Yang, Yen Sign or Cartoon Face, from 12X to 2000X. The Chicken is the wild symbol on the Banzai slot, and it substitutes for all of the above symbols.

One other symbol appearing on all reels is the Cast Bonus scatter. Whenever three or more scatters appear in any positions on the reels, the Bonus round is triggered. The player then chooses one of the hidden bonus titles to play and it will reveal one of four Bonus games available.

The Lady One Question Bonus has the player choose one of three questions for the character to ask a celebrity. The longer the celebrity answers, the more cash is won. The Bonus ends when the interviewee walks off screen. The Mr. Shake Hands Man 2 Bonus is similar, with cash awarded according to how long the character’s handshake lasts.

The Animal Scientific Experiment Bonus involves choosing one of four cockroaches to win a race. Cash prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. In the Celebrity Box of Death Dilemma Bonus, Mr. Cheeky Chappy becomes a vampire and hides in one of five coffins. The other four coffins contain cash awards. The player chooses coffins until the character is revealed or all four cash prizes are won.
