Casper`s Mystery Mirror

The fictional character known as “Casper the Friendly Ghost” was first developed for a children’s book in 1939 by writer Seymour Reit and illustrator Joe Oriolo. By 1945, the personable specter enjoyed his own line of comic books and had been made into an animated cartoon series by Famous Studios. Then, in 1995, Universal Pictures released a full-length feature comedy film based upon the antics of the amiable spirit, using computer-generated imagery and starring Bill Pullman and Christina Ricci.

The choice of the chummy little spook as the star of a slot game was made by Blue Print Gaming in 2012. They named it “Casper’s Mystery Mirror,” employing a bonus feature with stacked mirror symbols that reflect other reel symbols for huge potential payouts. Today, the game can be found on Bet365, Ladbrokes, Virgin Casino, Paddy Power and many other major online gaming sites.

The format used for Casper’s Mystery Mirror is 40 paylines across five reels with four rows of symbols in play. Betting denominations range from €0.03 to €2.50 per line, and the player may choose to put just one line in action or 10, 20 or 30 as well as all 40 for a maximum wager of €100.

The game’s 20 reel positions are framed by an ethereal purple border and seat against the backdrop of a graveyard at night. The control panel runs across the bottom of the screen, including indicators for “Bet,” “Lines,” “Total Bet” and “Total Paid.” The “Spin” button is framed in green at the centre and the “Paytable” access button is on the far right framed in red. The player’s balance of funds can be seen at any time in the upper right corner of the screen.

The standard playing card symbols are the basic symbols on the reels, Nines through Aces. They pay out line multipliers from 5X to 150X whenever three or more matching symbols appear on an active payline from left to right. High awards are given for matching three or more of Casper’s ghoulish friends or the Candelabra icon—from 20X to 400X. All symbols animate when appearing in a winning combination.

The Wild symbol on Casper’s Mystery Mirror is the Friendly Ghost himself, and Casper substitutes for any of the symbols mentioned above. He appears as stacked Wilds on all five reels, which can make for some pretty big payouts. Catching 3, 4 or 5 Caspers on a payline is worth 50X, 200X or 500X.

Another symbol appearing in the game is the Casper Bonus scatter on the three middle reels only. Catching all three Casper Bonus scatters simultaneously in any position triggers the 5 Free Spins feature. The player is immediately awarded a prize equal to the total stake made on the triggering spin. Then, 5 free spins are activated with stacked Mystery Mirror symbols in play on all five reels. The Mystery Mirror picks a symbol at random and displays it in every mirror in view. During the free spins, the Casper Bonus symbol is active, too, so the 5 Free Spins feature can be retriggered up to a maximum of 255 Free Spins.

Other options available on Casper’s Mystery Mirror include the “Autoplay” button below the fifth reel. It can be used to set 10, 20, 30, 40 or 50 spins at the same fixed stake. At the very top of the screen is an “Option” menu, where the “Sound” can be turned on or off, too. During play, a series of piano interludes sets a scary atmosphere for the game.
