Fairest of Them All

The German fable known as “Snow White” was popularized by the Brothers Grimm in the early 19th century. It has since become one of the world’s most beloved fairytales, replete with sorcery, romance, vanity, innocence and some of the most memorable characters in all of literature. In short, it’s the perfect theme for an online slot game from software developer Ash Gaming.

“Fairest of Them All” is a 5-reel, 20-payline slot with a wide array of bonus features plus a progressive jackpot. The animated introduction to the game is a microcosm of the Snow White saga, showing the heroine of the story communing with nature, the magic mirror reflecting the evil queen’s face, the mining dwarves, the witch and the poison apple along with the key phrase, “Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all?”

The slot screen opens to reveal a tranquil forest scene, where The Princess reclines beside a dirt path on a bed of grasses and flowers, surrounded by trees, a blinking rabbit, a squirrel and foliage. An owl sits perched atop the reels frame and a small cottage can be seen in the distance. Birds sing and chirp, a woodpecker adds some percussion and an occasional insect can be heard humming by. It’s a truly idyllic setting for slot play.

Play begins by selecting the total stake to be wagered from €0.20 to €200. This is accomplished by using the +/- toggles beside the bet indicator at the very bottom of the display. The reels can be set in motion by clicking on the “Play” button to the right below the “Total Win” indicator. Alternatively, “Auto Plays” can be used to select 5, 10, 20, 50 or 99 spins. There is also an option called “Until Bonus” to enable automated play till a bonus feature is won.

The basic reel symbols are the standard face cards, Jacks through Aces, which payout multipliers of the line state from 4X to 70X when three or more match from left to right on an active payline. Higher awards can be won by matching three or more Apple, Evil Queen or Prince Charming symbols, from 20X to 500X. Catching 3, 4 or 5 consecutive Slumbering Princess symbols is worth 50X, 500X or 1000X, respectively.

The Fairest of Them All Logo is the wild symbol in this game. It substitutes for all symbols except the Dwarf Bonus and Magic Mirror Scatter symbols. Whenever 3, 4 or 5 Logos appear in a row, they pay 100X, 1000X or 5000X, respectively, making the top line payout €50,000 when the maximum stake of €200 is wagered.

The Magic Mirror Scatter symbols appear on only reels 2, 4 and 5. When all three are displayed on the same spin, the Free Spins Bonus is triggered, awarding five free spins. The background scenery surrounding the reels shifts from daylight to night. During the free spins round, all other bonus features are deactivated, but a special Magic Mirror symbol is set on the third reel. If it appears showing the image of The Princess, the free spins are “locked.” The free spins remaining will not decrease until a Magic Mirror showing the Evil Queen appears and unlocks the spins. In the meantime, any subsequent appearance of The Princess in the Magic Mirror adds a 1X multiplier to all wins. The total number of free spins possible is limited to 100.

The Dwarf Bonus symbols appear on only reels 1, 3 and 5. Whenever all three appear simultaneously in any positions on the reels, the Mine Bonus is initiated. A secondary bonus screen is displayed showing a mine scene. The seven dwarves arrive on mine cart and the player must select one of them to dig gems from the mine’s wall with a pick axe. Each gem is worth a hidden cash amount and the dwarf doing the work awards a fixed cash prize for each gem mined.

During the Mine Bonus, the mine cart may return now and then offering additional mystery bonuses: a cash multiplier, an extra miner (up to three possible) or a TNT Super-Pick that yields a large cash prize. Mining continues until a “Collect” gem is dug up.

One other special feature of the Fairest of Them All is its six modifiers. These are awarded randomly by The Princess at any time during slot play. She may blow Silver Dust to change the symbols on reels 2 and 3 into winning combinations or blow Gold Dust to increase the value of a winning combination. If she gives the rabbit a carrot, he will hop up on the reels and turn one or more of them into stacked Wild Logos.

Another modifier comes from the owl swooping down to change from 1 to 5 reel symbols into Wild Logos. The arrival of a red bird will multiply all line wins by up to 30X. And if the butterfly lands on the reels, it will add from 1 to 5 scatter symbols, guaranteeing a bonus round.
